Norman Gross president of the Chicago-Black Hills Highway association said the Iowa Highway Commission chair informed him there is little hope for a new Akron Westfield bridge until at least 1958. The bridge would connect highways 35 and 50 in South Dakota. Commission member Chris Larsen Jr. has yet to report on a South Dakota Iowa meeting in Chicago. Des Moines will hear the report March 20. Plymouth County supervisors vote 3 to 2 to push road work toward the bridge despite Iowa’s funding uncertainty.

Warrant Out For Missing LeMars Boy
A warrant for the arrest of Larry Landgraf of LeMars was sworn in court today for larceny in the daytime exceeding twenty dollars. Landgraf, a high school boy, was reported missing from his home and is the son of Mrs. Melvin Pins. He was arrested in Washington Iowa and awaits Sheriff Frank Scholer. He was said to have been in a stolen Missouri car at the time of arrest and the sheriff expects his return to clear up questions.

Roger D. Junck of Hinton pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and paid 300 dollars in fines plus court costs. Judge Berry J. Sink recommended a 60 day license suspension. Junck was arrested March 8 after driving on the wrong side of Lowell Street. Moville resident Wendal W. Tracewell waived preliminary hearing on a charge of driving with a suspended license and was bound over to the May district grand jury, posting 500 dollars bond after a two car collision last November near Climbing Hill.

Winterfeld longtime Craig mayor dies shoveling snow
Albert Winterfeld former Craig mayor and longtime resident died suddenly on March 11 1956 while shoveling snow at his home. He was born October 30 1876 in Clayton County Iowa and moved to Craig as a child. He was 79. Survivors include his wife Meta a son Alvin two daughters two sisters and a brother. Funeral services were held March 13 at St Johns Lutheran Church in Craig with burial in the church cemetery.

She married George Hall of Philadelphia. two children born one daughter died young and son George Hall Jr. survives in the East. Widowed twice she later married John McDonald in 1916 and moved to Hawarden area. Mr McDonald died in 1948. She was Episcopal and a DAR member. Funeral held at Hawarden funeral home and burial followed beside her husband in Pleasant Hill cemetery LeMars officiated by Rev Marlin Whitmer.
