Floyd Caulkins longtime Le Mars civic leader and North West Iowa Power Cooperative manager was elected District Chairman of the Floyd Valley district of the Prairie Gold Area council covering Plymouth and Sioux counties. The vote occurred at the Valley District meeting at Le Mars High School on March 15. LeMar Jones was recommended for reappointment as Floyd Valley District Commissioner, after serving since December. Three members of the Plymouth County ASC Office attended a meeting in Ida Grove on March 13 to discuss the Purchase Order Plan. The Plymouth County ASC Committee voted to use the plan for tile terraces limestone dams waterside fill and wells with farmers signing requests before approvals. To participate the farmer and vendor must sign an agreement at the county office and complete the application. The Globe Post reports no refunds on gas bills despite rumors. Eisenhower vetoed the Natural Gas bill, but that will not lower rates or trigger refunds. IPS district manager Carrell Ketelsen says colder winter raised bills and milder weather already reduces them. Two Hawarden Men Arrested After Highway Crash
Hawarden sheriff says two men escaped with only cuts and bruises after a car they rode rolled 3145 feet on the west side of a highway four miles north of Hawarden. Driver Mylan C Dierks, 22, posted a $1000 bond and faces operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Passenger Vern Hendicks, 48, was charged with intoxication and paid a $15 fine. The 1956 Mercury convertible suffered about $3000 damage.

In February and March the Boy's 4-H Clubs of Plymouth County met in small groups to study four electricity phases Good Sight Under Standing Electricity Electric Motors and Wiring. About 270 members attended February meetings and 220 in March. Harlan Stratton led the Extension Youth staff with cooperation from Power Suppliers IPS NIPCO REA and local 4-H leaders. REA provided apples. A special electricity 4-H club will be formed for continued study with trips and awards planned for outstanding work.

Howard Wells Dies in Chicago After Heart Attack
Howard Wells, a former LeMars resident, died in a Chicago hospital on Wednesday March 4 after a heart attack. He was 65, son of the late Miro and Fred Wells Sr, survived by wife Jennie, Howard Jr, two grandchildren, and five sisters. Funeral services were held Saturday in Chicago with nephews Roy Wells of Sioux City and Harold Wells of LeMars among mourners. Suspects list several relatives and visitors in the extended family.
