Iowa officials ride train to Las Vegas for atomic blast study

Plymouth county's Rep J Henry Lucken and State Senator Eldon Walter left Ames by train for Las Vegas to observe the civilian impact of an atomic bomb test scheduled for Tuesday. They will study standard houses, cars, and urban effects to gauge how a real city would fare under attack, using Nagasaki and Hiroshima as references.

Dewhirst and Taglauer Wed in Sioux City Ceremony

Mrs Hattie Taghauer of Kingsley and James L Dewhirst of Laverne Minnesota wed Friday at the First Unitarian church in Sioux City with Rev J W Brigham officiating Miss Anna M Duncanson and Ralph Walder were attendants. After a Florida wedding trip they will live in Kingsley.

Navy enlistments and local visits reported in Sioux City

Join, Dale Donlin and Ronald Anderson of The Globe-Post force, and Paul Knorr went to Sioux City Tuesday and enlisted in the Navy. They passed examinations easily and expect active service after school, between June 1 and June 15. Dr. R. M. Figg and W. J. Bruscher will attend a dental meeting at the Warrior Hotel in Sioux City on Monday evening, March 14. Mrs. T. P. Watry of Adrian, Minnesota, spent several days last week with friends and relatives in this area.

Not In Truck Charge Hired Hand Says Sheriff

Everett Larson not driver in pickup mix up. Carl Smith, under 30, former hired hand, jailed awaiting district judge. Smith borrowed employer’s pickup, collided with Earl Schindel’s car injuring Mrs. Schindel with a broken nose. Blood test showed 2.19 percent alcohol. No driver’s license. Smith held in county jail until judge's hearing.

Married Miss Mabel Huls to wed Frank Van Awelt

Miss Mabel Huls daughter of Mr and Mrs John Huls of Sic Mars will marry Frank Van Awelt of Alton at 7:30 tonight at St Johns Lutheran church Preston township. Child loses finger in corn elevator accident

LaZanne Wetrosky two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Dwight Wetrosky was discharged after injuries from her right hand getting caught in a corn elevator speehpack. The index finger and part of the second finger were severed and several bones broken. A heavy coat clogged the machine and likely prevented greater harm.

Exchange Student Miss Sewell to study in Germany

Miss Camilla Sewell, daughter of T M Jewell, will leave the University of Colorado for the University of Erlangen Iiaria near Numbers Germany in November this year as an exchange student under the Fullbricht law. The scholarship continues to July 1954 supporting study in German language literature drama history and music.

45th Anniversary for Mr and Mrs Wm Eilts in Le Mars

Mr and Mrs Wm Eilts observed their 45th wedding anniversary at home in Le Mars with 45 guests on Wednesday March 11. A 5:30 dinner preceded social visiting and Viking movies. The couple, born near Teton Iowa and married in 1908, spent most of their lives in Sioux County, retiring to Le Mars in 1945. They have a daughter Mrs L G Borchers of Teton, Iowa, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Relatives from Spencer South Dakota attended, with flowers sent as gifts.

Wild Steer Killed As Its Loaded Up

Three wild steers belonging to Joe Goebel were roped by George Blur, retired cowhand, and placed in stanchions. An attempted transfer to a truck led to one steer breaking its neck and dying. Blair butchered the steer for meat, disappointing Lookersons who hoped for a Western barbecue.

William B. Puttman sues Down Ring for damages to his 1951 Pontiac parked near the curb in Hinton on December 15, 1952. Ring allegedly struck the rear of the Puttman vehicle. Eyres Named Farm Bureau Vice-President in Plymouth County

Walter P. Eyres of Umnon township was chosen by the Farm Bureau head to fill the vacancy left by Lyte Stephens as Plymouth County Farm Bureau Vice-President. Eyres farms with his brother in Con township and has long served on the Resolutions and Legislative committees. He attended Town Style College at Ames for three years and worked on the West Coast in a defense plant during the war before moving back in October 1949 with Mrs Eyres and their two children attending the Union Presbyterian church.
