Penalty For Delay In Getting Plates
County Treasurer Bob Kelly announced an extra 4 percent penalty starts March 1 for motorists without 1956 license plates visible and for those who failed to purchase plates in February. The 1956 plates also cover 1957 with a small aluminum tag. State Safety Commissioner Clinton Moyer said the interim committee could not act, noting no authority to approve more funds for 1937 plates.

Somebody Took Axe To Taxi Cop's Car
William Hagman reports vandalism to his 19 model car in the early morning hours Tuesday. The street side and windshield windows were shattered and window frames dented with axe marks. Hagman, 51, of 213 Main Street, Sioux City, formerly a sergeant and town marshal, was nicknamed The Green Hornet for his highway arrests. He now drives a blue car.

Iowa Falls laborer Donald Cox, 31, was awarded 75000 by a Rock Island railroad trial jury in a district court before Judge Michael J. Dillon. Barn Fire Destroys Stock on Hawarden Farm
A large stock barn converted to a pig breeder on Richard Moelter’s Hawarden farm, five miles northeast of Irgton, was destroyed by fire. Loss about $7,000, partly insured. Two thousand bales of hay and 45 pigs perished. Hawarden and Sioux Center firefighters battled the blaze amid water shortages.
