The Le Mars park board faces whether to pay the sheriff's condemnation price for 14.34 acres on the New Desi park edge. Stellingwerf can appeal higher, while the city may take the land to lease to the federal government for an armory if the jury price is accepted.

Franzen Receives Commission and Aeronautical Engineering Degree

Ronald Franzen son of Mr and Mrs Victor Franzen of Kingsway joined 39 Town State College ROTC cadets to receive a second lieutenant commission in the Air Force Reserve at graduation exercises June 15 held in the College Armory at Iowa State. Hailstorm Damage Report Near Remsen and Surrounding Areas

Reports indicate hail occurred south and southeast of Remsen in Henry township with some farms such as George Melhop Elmer Steffen Fred Steffen Elmer Gettner and several Sanow farms sustaining losses. Rainfall over Friday night exceeded one inch in Le Mars while Kingsley recorded over four inches with light hail. Weather dropped temperatures below 50 degrees by Saturday night and Sunday morning as other parts of Plymouth County received two inches of rain.

Flood Crest Past Akron

The Big Sioux river crest passed Akron around dawn Friday, reaching 19.78 feet and surpassing the 1951 high. By 8 a.m. the river fell to about 19.2 feet as Akron remained on higher ground with no major damage reported. The Missouri river at Sioux City stood at 2.9 feet, suggesting the Big Sioux flood would not severely affect the area.

Marie Johanna Asmussen dies in Le Mars hospital

Marie Johanna Asmussen of Le Mars died Friday June 21 after months of illness, age 28. She was born September 8, 1908, married Oscar Asmussen on December 23, 1930, and is survived by her husband, five children Arvaughn Seat te Washington Verlyn Seattle Denwon St Paul Vonnie and Dianne, three grandchildren, her parents Mr and Mrs Sichel Harms, and three brothers Harm Fred Jurgen, all of Le Mars. Burial was at Le Mars City Cemetery with Mauer Funeral Home handling arrangements. Burial followed at St Johns American Lutheran Church with Rev L I Beth officiating.

Highway 75 Opens Tomorrow From Le Mars To Sioux City

The four lane highway 73 from Le Mars to Sioux City is due to open tomorrow except for possibly a short stretch through Merrill. Upgrades include a new railroad overpass at Leeds and a four lane Merrill bridge to replace the dangerous old crossing.
