Funeral held for Glenn Schipper former Le Mars resident

Funeral services for Glenn Schipper of Sheldon were held Saturday at St Patrick s Church Keldon with burial in Calvary Cemetery Le Mars. He died in a Hartley plane crash along with instructor Lambert Flechte. FAA investigators pursued cause. Survived by Betty, two sons Scott and Mark, siblings, and parents.

Journalism Workshop Gathers Iowa High School Journalists

Le Mars group led by Jerry Blakely Ann Dehne Dianne Flynn Kay Knapp and Donna Dee gan joins four cohorts of 200 promising Iowa high school journalists in Iowa City for a six day University of Iowa publications workshop. Registration began Sunday and the program ends Friday with a graduation banquet where diplomas are awarded.

Hanging incident alarms residents in Plymouth street

Fritz Wiebersch freed 12 year old Tom Stoeber who appeared to be hanging from a tree by a rope tied around his waist. The boy walked home with Jack Hentges after briefly losing consciousness. No injuries or marks were found, and he recovered quickly. Eighth graders organized a mock lynching party at noon, pulling the rope up with the hangman’s knot secured around the boy but not his neck.

Car Accident on Highway 75 Causes $700 Damage

Robert Bendinger of Rock Rapids lost control of his 1958 Pontiac Catalina on Highway 75 half a mile south of Le Mars Thursday at 10 35. The car jumped the center island and veered into a ditch on the opposite side, suffering $700 damage and was towed to Stoos Brothers Garage.

Accidents Reported at Le Mars Intersections Date Missing

At two intersections in Le Mars on a Friday and Saturday in June, two collisions damaged several vehicles. A 1952 Chevrolet owned by Richard Harpenau sustained $75 damage to its right rear. a 1953 Chevrolet driven by Anthony Goeman incurred $25 damage to the right front. A 1957 Ford convertible driven by Roger Schorg and a 1957 Chevrolet driven by Mildred McClintock collided, with damages of $300 and $90 respectively. Reports filed at the mayor's office.

Summer School Enrollments Reported at Westmar College

Piano Recital Honors Miss Patricia Borchers at Akron High

Friday evening May 28 at the Akron High School Auditorium featured Miss Patricia Borchers in a private piano recital. A program of Liszt Grieg Rach Sibelius Werner Gartner and Chopin showcased clarity and expressive technique. A two piano number preceded a standing ovation for Miss Borchers who recently graduated and was Homecoming Queen. She will enter college this fall. Mrs Borchers hosted a luncheon after the program.

Gaul and Dalton Crash on county road near Sears

At about 8 30 pm Thursday a 1958 Chevrolet driven by Maxine Dalton struck the rear of a 1951 Dodge driven by Richard Gaul six miles south and 40 east of Sears. The sheriff's office said a car stopped on the road as Gaul slowed to avoid it, Dalton's car then hit Gaul's. Estimated damage: Dalton car 160, Gaul vehicle 50. Dalton, 16, drives a car owned by Calvin Eyres.

Doe Vehicle Collision Near Merrill Injures Deer

A Chevrolet driven by Patricia Dandy of Sioux City struck a large doe on highway 7S about 242 miles south of Merrill at 4 40 a m Friday. Both the driver and passenger Miss Meridith Peters of Sioux City were uninjured. The deer was badly mangled and taken to the rendering works. the Le Mars sheriff's office investigated.
