Monday’s primary in Plymouth county was quiet with a heavier Republican vote due to contested races. Democratic contests were minimal and totals are unofficial, with notes on the candidacy of County Engineer E. E. Expansion Planned for Lutheran Church to Add Youth Center

Rest. LL Belk of St Johns American Lutheran says a $70,000 expansion for Sunday school rooms and a youth center was signed with builders on June 3. The Gothic brick and stone addition, aimed at a growing parish, will be 40 by 40 feet with sixteen classrooms and a complete youth center, attached north of the existing building. Work starts next week and should finish by January. the parish membership rose from 103% to 158% since 1947, Sunday school attendees from 462 to 697. Walt Gen Construction Co. and Semmes Plumbing are low bidders, Hoffman Electrical handles wiring.

Master’s Degree Awarded To Lewis Mall

Lewis Mall, a former Le Mars resident and Westmar College graduate, earned a Master of Arts at the University of South Dakota Vermillion. He majored in languages and wrote a thesis on humor and satire in the works of George Duhamel. Mall was elected to Phi Sigma Iota, the National Honorary Romance Language society, and is the grandson of Mr and Mrs Ray Berner of Le Mars.

Verlee Murch and Russell Gronemeyer Wed in Grace Methodist Ceremony

Deer Slaughter Alleges Plymouth County Open Season

A Plymouth county inquiry reports that deer were killed by hunters after a state conservation commission declared an open season. Farmers objected while locals claim the herd was decimated as tame deer offered slaughter licenses for profit. A group of hunters killed seven deer near Hinton, with reports mixed on legality and cause. Fires Struck Two Vehicles In Le Mars Area

Fire crews from Le Mars battled two vehicle blazes in Le Mars during overnight hours. A Kemper Brothers truck on highway 75 over the Floyd River in Lismore was saved from total loss with about 200 dollars in damage and livestock saved. A second fire involved a 1949 Ford owned by Keith Rohlis parked on 12 First Ave. N. W. with the back seat ablaze at midnight. police and fire personnel used a garden hose to extinguish the flames.

Franklin May Fete at Franklin School Featured May Pole Dance

Franklin School held its annual May Fete with Anne Maner and Liary Geaurke as queen and duke. Attendants Karen Dedoff, Lou ise Haugan, Moke Hart, and Gary Bunch joined. Fourth grade carried out the May Pole Dance then PE activities by each room. Miss Simonsen directed the program. At 6 PM students and parents enjoyed a polluch supper, followed by the fourth grade boys defeating a fathers team.

Summer Services At First M. E. Church Le Mars

First Methodist church Le Mars will hold identical summer services each Sunday morning in June and July led by Rev. Robert V. Gildner. The first service at 8 30 a m accommodates workers and others with early commitments, described as Come As You Are. Will Shoot New Car Out Of Cannon Show Comes To Sea Speed

Cherokee champion Jose Chitwood merges his thrill show with the Congress of Canadian Dare Devils to stage a two hour spectacle at Sea Speed Owl Cherokee this Sunday. The act features a white 1956 car launched from a 60 foot ramp with crashes and high risk stunts performed by the Manteal Motorbattes led by Hert Labave. Gunhild C Johnson 71 died Monday at Akron hospital after years of illness. Lena Meister Rites Held at Kingsley Congregational Church

Funeral services for Lena Meister 76 were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kingsley Congregational church. She died Sunday after a long illness at a daughter’s home in Kingsley. Rev Herbert Brewster officiated with Dickison funeral home in charge. Born October 21, 1879 in Wood county Wisconsin, she married John Meister in 1904 and lived near Kingsley. Mrs Helmrichs Dies After Long Illness in Akron Area

Margaretha Kathrina Maria Helmrichs born September 21 1905 baptized in Lutheran faith by Rev Theo Meyer confirmed March 28 1920. Married John Helmrichs March 15 1938. daughter Judy Jean born April 5 1945. After a fall in 1953 and later mental illness, she suffered cancer and died May 31 1985 in Akron Community Hospital. Survived by husband John, daughter Judy, mother Helen Prhs, siblings and extended relatives.

Death of Mrs Helmiths at 130 Years Old

Mrs Helmiths died at age 130 years seven days in Preston Township. A Preton member of St John's Tater church she remained faithful to her confession at baptism and through death. A simple childlike gathering followed by a funeral at St John's Lutheran Church Preston at 200 p.m. Rev H Dirks officiated. burial in the church cemetery after a brief home service.
