Red Cross swimming lesson notices for Union Township pupils

Rural school children from Union Township and Hinton are registered for Red Cross swimming lessons with sessions on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday from 9 00 to 11 00 am and 1 45 to 5 15 pm. Famed Coach Will Manage Remsen Pool

St Mary's coach and Remsen instructor Lou Galetich was named by the town council as manager of affairs for the new municipal swimming pool. Contractor Harold Christiansen of Pender Nebr says weather favors completion by July 1 with opening expected the first week of July. Galetich will be general manager until early fall while eight workers under Virgil Carlson build the pool.

Mass Cooling Off As 2500 Swim At New Deal Pool

On a near 100 degree Sunday in Iowa the New Deal Park pool drew about 2500 visitors to beat the heat. Thermometer hit 98 degrees with a low of 67 overnight. June and year precipitation remain well below normal. Saturday’s high reached 85 degrees.

Largest Summer Enrollment at Westar College

Dr Howland reports the largest summer enrollment in years at Westar College with 178 students registered for the first term starting June 4 and ending July 1. There are 48 courses, the education program has the largest enrollment, and 20 students are in the driver training course taught by Mr VanderWell. Twenty-one teachers staff the summer term. a second session runs July 12 to August 7.

Mrs Joynt Earns Law Degree From Cambridge England

Mrs Robert I Joynt of Iowa City, daughter of Mr and Mrs L J McGivern of Marcus, completed requirements for a diploma in international law from Cambridge University England. She studied there in 1954 1953 while her husband Dr Robert Joynt a neurology resident at UI Hospital studied. She wrote a thesis The Nationality of Married Women and finished the degree after returning home. The Joynt family has two children, Robert and Patricia. Dr Joynt is son of Dr and Mrs R J Joynt of Le Mars.

Farmers Plan To Attend 10th Anniversary

Many farmers in Plymouth County plan to attend the 10th anniversary of the establishment at Castana on Tuesday June 12. The program includes tours of soil and crop plots, demonstrations of irrigation and farming equipment, a Phillips Watershed exhibit, and questions answered by Lews State College specialists. Noon lunch will be served by the Manana 4-H Clubs with several clubs hosting afternoon sessions.

Benjamin N Simpson long time Merrill resident died Thursday when the tractor he rode with a mower rolled on a grade along a right of way half a mile south of Merch. He was 49 and had worked as section foreman for the railroad. He married Rosalie Burrill in 1937. Surviving are his widow and three sisters. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Church of the Assumption in Merrill. Burial in Calgary cemetery at Le Mars. Wiltgen-Luedthe funeral home in charge.

Charles A Sauer died after long illness in Sioux City

Charles A Sauer of Sioux City died Sunday after a long illness. Born August 8, 1877, he lived here 15 years and was a retired butcher. He was a charter member of several lodges. Surviving are a son Karl of Sioux City, a daughter Mrs Nadeline Fort of Riverside, California, two brothers Dr. Andrew Sauer and Dr. Raymond Sauer of Chicago, and a sister Mrs Erma Dickerman of Yakima Washington. Funeral services will be Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Epiphany with burial in Mars. Rosary tonight at Perra Bros Funeral Home. A marriage license was issued in Sioux County to Darrell Dean Dolesinger and Mary Eilen Graser. Mrs Tofrank Tewell presented Carol Ann Karty in an organ recital at Evangelical United Brethren church.
