Open House marks 60th wedding anniversary of Lauters
Mrs and Mrs J. W. Lauters celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house at 237 4th St SW from 2 to 3 pm after a nuptial Mass at St James Catholic Church. Fifteen family members attended. luncheon on the lawn followed, with bouquets of pink and white asters on the buffet table. The couple, married July 10, 1894, reside in Le Mars, have 11 children, and 2 grandchildren.

The Peers Sharpshooters 4-H club met at Connie Kaschs home on a July 1954 evening. Tom Steinbeck led the session starting at 9:30 with seven members present. Gary Williams discussed a California tour planned for June 17, plus a demonstration on artificial respiration and a camp hint. The group approved adjournment at 10:15 after a lunch. Remender Doc Hentges, once a Le Mars star with Snakes Prafford and Harry Gasper, is now “Mr. Baseball” in Canon City Colorado. He runs two Junior leagues, funds fields and grounds, and promotes softball versus hardball while shaping local youth through weekly baseball, local 4 H and civic groups. A veteran of the Spanish American War and WWI, he remains a community beacon and lifelong baseball man.

Sunday ceremony marks cornerstone lay at the new Calvary Church. Rev Kenneth J Clawson will lead the service and Dr John A Dowd will preach the sermon and oversee the ceremony. Walter E Hattendorf will set the cornerstone as the congregation moves from Westmar College chapel to the church at 11 30. The church seats 32 in the nave and 75 in the balconies with a 500 capacity overall and fold doors opening to the fellowship hall.
