Cunningham Bowron Wedding at St John Le Mars

Miss Ardefle Cunningham became the bride of Kent Bowron in a July 1 ceremony at St John American Lutheran Le Mars. The couple, whose families include Evelyn Cunningham and the Bowrons of Boulder Colorado, plan a two week honeymoon in Canada before settling in Boulder. The event drew 150 guests with a reception in the church parlors and a three tier cake.

Rain increasers admitted a half inch fall on Le Mars may stem from silver iodide generators burning since Friday. The hail storm devastated Sioux County and Nebraska, with baseball sized hail striking planes at Sioux City airport. Plymouth county remains about $1,000 short of the $11,000 goal, awaiting a Remsen rain meeting and Gene Kieffer’s verdict. Remsen reported nearly an inch of rain and officials filled a new swimming pool.

Kaschmit Family Announces Daughters Wedding

Hawarden Man Injured in County Road Collision

Walt Uttesch of Hawarden suffered back injuries when his Sac City Construction gravel truck collided with a car at a rural intersection east of Hinton. He was taken to Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars and is improving. The car driver was Paul McNaughton of Hinton. his grandson Erul McNaughton was uninjured. The truck was knocked onto its side after the impact. The car remained upright.

Hancock Hummingbirds Hold June Meeting

The Hancock Hummingbirds met June 12 with Glenna Williams hosting. Members answered roll call and discussed fundraising for Wall Sude Mission Camp Fund. Karen Atri spoke on knowing your candidates and Margaret Ream presented on picture study. Glenna Williams demonstrated posture exercises. Donna Peters spoke on weed control. An all day workshop was set for June 26. A luncheon was served by the host and her mother. Reporter: Margaret Ream.

Johnson Receives Lutheran Brotherhood Award

Dennis Johnson son of Mr and Mrs Frank Johnson of Akron received a $150 leadership award from the Lutheran Brotherhood, a fraternal life insurance group based in Minneapolis. Gilbert Al Nore presented the award. Johnson plans to attend Gustavus Adolphus College at St Peter Minnesota after earning high school honors and serving as student council president and co editor of the school yearbook.

Gaul Orban Wedding At St. Mary's Alton June 30 1956

Miss Helen Marie Gaul and Vernon Orban wed at St. Mary's Catholic Church Alton in a 8 30 a m ceremony. Rev Zeno Reising read vows as Hydrangea and pink rose decorations framed the altar. Marcus Boy Killed Under Farm Tractor

Marvin Hansen aged 98 was killed when he fell under a tractor on his farm ten miles north of Marcus. He died after his chest was crushed while walking beside the machine. Services were held at Cavan and Gate dian funeral home and John Eutheran church in Germantown with Rev A F Wehbing officiating. He was a Paullina High School graduate active in Future Farmers of America and speech work. Survived by his parents Harry Hansen, a brother and a sister, plus relatives in Marcus and Omaha. Visiting at the home of Pro and Mrs H P Cunningham.

Three Vehicle Crashes Reported Near Le Mars Area

A series of crashes occurred in the Le Mars region. Charles James Hugh es, driving a 1950 Ford near Branch corner on highways 3 and 5, was fined $14 for losing vehicle control after a 3:00 A M crash. Edward Kilker, 25, of Le Mars, injured when his 1950 Ford overturned on highway 75 south of Merrill at 5:00 P M. he was hospitalized in good condition. Harvey Whisiand of Lyons, Nebraska, driving a 1951 International truck four miles north of Le Mars on highway 75 at 1:00 A M, reportedly turned too short on a detour causing minor damage worth about $100. Mrs Charles Lentz hosted Mrs Ella Wetzel of Minneapolis as her guest.

Blockaded businesses sue road contractor over damages

Five Le Mars businessmen along U.S. 75 sue Jensen and Krage for 17000 in damages alleging delaying resurfacing left the highway impassable to customers for about six weeks. Plaintiffs include E C Ross Dusty Queen and several service stations and cafes. attorneys are Orville Howes and Thomas McCullough.

Council Oak Store Adds 36 ft of Frozen Food Cases

Le Mars store announces installation of 36 linear feet of new TYLE food cases giving the shop the largest frozen foods assortment in town with over 80 varieties. Emma Koch 1881 1946 Spirit Lake teacher dies at 75

Emma Koch died July 10 1946 at a Spirit Lake Iowa nursing home after years of ill health. A retired schoolteacher she lived at the Methodist camp in Spirit Lake born February 28 1871 in Clayton County Iowa. Funeral services were held July 22 at the Spirit Lake Methodist church with burial in Te Mars city cemetery.
