Bridge rebuilt after Willow Creek flood near Le Mars
A wooden trestle east of Le Mars over Willow Creek is being fully reconstructed after the June 6 1953 flood. The project cost about 48000 dollars and will raise the bridge two feet. Crews from Cherokee and Meriden work four months to finish, with piling 30 to 35 feet long and 16 to 12 inches thick. The effort reroutes trains during construction and aims to surpass prior flood crests. Large gravel pits in the valley attract attention as potential resource wealth remains unquantified.
