An Arts and Crafts Exhibit will be held in Thoren Hall on the Westmar campus July 9 and 10, Monday and Tuesday forenoon from 9:30 to 12:00. Work on display is by Westmar summer school art students and includes metal tooling, paper design, crayon resist, paper mache animals, crayon etchings, and more. Public is invited. Monday students will explain techniques. Laura Kempers is the summer session art instructor.

Only state contest winners may compete in Reno Nebraska Nationals. last year about 170 students entered. Riders include Barbara Groethen Cloverleaf barrel race Shirley Groethen Cloverleaf barrel race Jim Groetken cutting horse. Elk Horn Extension Club Picnic at Kingsley featured many families and a carefree evening with games and visiting. Club reporter Dempster notes no meetings until September and deputy sheriff James Mertes attended a peace officers convention at the University of Iowa.
Lions club Farm Bureau Le Mars Savings Bank First Nations Bank and the Chamber of Commerce with 285 members urge Governor Hoegh to push the federal government to declare Plymouth County a drought area. If declared, soil bank land could be used for emergency pasture to save livestock during dry weather.

Counts show 18 hen pheasants, 20 cock pheasants, 46 cottontail rabbits, 10 jack rabbits, 2 deer, 5 raccoons, 3 badgers, 8 squirrels, 4 striped shunks, 6 spotted shunks, and 20 song birds from April 15 to June 5. A horn blast can often deter animals, preventing damage to cars and wildlife.
Miss Shirley Ann Steichen and Thomas Rosburg exchanged vows Tuesday morning June 26 at St Marys Catholic Church Remsen. Rev Father Henry A Janse presided with organist Mrs S M Fiedler and soloist Darrell Muir.
Miss Margaret Ferris of Cherokee and Raymond Wilberding, son of Mr and Mrs Charley Wilberding of Maryhill, wed at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee on Wednesday June 20. The couple will reside in Cherokee as Wilberding assists his father on the farm. Attending the ceremony and reception from Remsen were Mrs Frances Wilberding and her daughter Mrs Dale Bruning.
Ely Bender a 24 year old agricultural trainer from the Jewish Agency in Israel arrived in Plymouth County and will live for a month with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Schoenrock in Lincoln Township. The Iowa Farm Youth Exchange, run by Extension Service and the National 4-H Foundation, aims to promote international understanding and world peace through firsthand rural life experiences.
Ballots for the annual ASC township and community elections will be mailed to 3825 eligible farm owners by Tuesday July 3, announced H. J. Ahlers. Each voter gets a ballot envelope and secrecy instructions. ballots due by July 13. Ballot counting on July 17 will select a chairman, vice chairman, and three members with alternates for the one year term starting August 1. Delegates to the county convention will be chosen. the convention is July 28 in Le Mars, Iowa.
Miss Helen Marie Gaul and Ver non Orban were united in marriage on Saturday at St Marys Catholic church in Alton. The couple plans a wedding trip to northern states and will reside at 401 1st Ave NW Le Mars. The bride works at Dorrs Food Market and the groom is advertising manager at The Globe Post.
Mrs Anna Croatt 90 longtime Alton resident died Wednesday at daughter’s home in Alton. Born January 1 1866 in Decadia Wis she moved to Sioux county as a girl with her parents. She married Nicholas Croatt April 24 1887 and farmed in Fast Orange township until 1921 when they retired to Allen. Survivors include three sons Edward Madison Minn Louis Hospers Leo Belgium Wis and three daughters H J Plathe Madison Minn H J Van Roxtel Battle Creek Ia and Mrs Pohlen plus many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A son preceded her in death. Funeral at St Mary Catholic church Alton with burial in church cemetery.

H J Ablers, Plymouth county ASC chair, warns farmers of key cutoff dates for the soil bank acre age reserve this crop year. Deadlines include June 30 for canning wheat and clipping barley and rye, July 4 for clipping oats, July 20 for signing agreements, July 31 for multiple crops, and July 36 for corn and flaxseed grain sorghum and soybeans. Grazing rules revised to June 22, emergency orders required for post June 22 grazing. Office hours 8 to 12 and 1 to 5, Monday through Friday.
The State Conservation Commission announces a new edition of Iowa Fish and Fishing by James Harlan and Everett Speaker. The 377 page handbook adds 18 color plates covering 63 species, with new chapters on distribution, natural baits, and tackle. Cost is $2.50 and copies are available by mail or from conservation officers.
