Fire Destroys Home in Preston Township
The farm home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Taylor in Preston township was wiped out by a Sunday morning fire. Belongings were lost, with flames rising near a chimney. Akron and Craig fire departments fought the blaze until 6 am. The Taylor family of five planned to rebuild on the farm a quarter mile north, aided by insurance.

Gust Swanson Hinton 80 died January 29 at a Le Mars hospital after a long illness. Born September 3 1878 in Sweden he came to the United States in 1893 and farmed in Plymouth County for 50 years. Survived by daughter Mrs Hershel Harding of Troy Montana and brother Victor of Le Mars. preceded in death by wife, a son, and a brother. Funeral arrangements pending Lukens funeral home in charge. Mrs Alton Forsberg hosted Merrie Mixers luncheon and visiting session yesterday at one o'clock.

Lady Burglar Sentenced Ten Years In Reformatory
Mrs. Janice Ruth VanDeWalker Jr. pleaded guilty to larceny in the nighttime and was sentenced Tuesday by District Judge George M. Paradise to 10 years in the women’s reformatory at Rockwell City. She had a prior record and faced several co defendants, including Vernon Dale VanDeWalker, Mrs. Lucille Gill, Dennis Smith, Larry LeRoy Gifford, and others involved in a Woodbury Plymouth county crime spree. The DeWalkers and Mrs. Gilvern lived at 714 Plymouth Street and are jailed in Plymouth County. Jack Knight of Akron was discharged from St. Vincent’s hospital on Sunday January 24.

Riemensnieder Hurt In Car Collision
Emory Riemensnieder 48 of Pierson, Tennessee. seriously injured in a head on collision on highway 78 north of Sioux Center. He was taken to St Joseph Mercy Hospital Sioux City with a crushed right leg facial lacerations and probable jaw fracture. Sergeant Lawrence Hayes said Riemensnieder was southbound when his car hit the rear of a cattle truck driven by Gert Houle of Sioux Center. The car was dragged, windshield shattered, and part of the truck rear damaged.

Five officers and others from Plymouth County Farmers' Mutual drove to Spencer for a meeting of reinsurers when smoke appeared near the car. Charles Tucker escaped with a burned overcoat as the vehicle caught fire in the rear, and the fire was put out with snow. The loss was covered by insurance.
