Funeral services for Mrs Louise L Steele 40 of Wheatridge Colorado a former Remsen resident who died unexpectedly Friday night in her Wheatridge home were held at St Marys Catholic church Remsen Tuesday at 9 30 a m Burial followed in St Marys cemetery under Fisch Funeral Home direction Rev George Theobald officiated She was born April 21 1915 daughter of John and the late Bernadine Waldschmidt She married Leon Steele February 14 1941 and the couple lived in Colorado for ten years Survivors include her husband and father four children Jean Patricia Roger and Jane two sisters Otillia Diekmann Long Beach California and Mary Freking Remsen three brothers John Jr LeMars Paul and Ray Remsen Numerous relatives from distance attended.

National Farmers Organization Meets in Plymouth County

An organizational session of the National Farmers Organization met at the Plymouth County courthouse on Thursday January 12. S. E. First National Bank Hangs A Mural Of Area Scenes

E Fristad president of First National Bank in LeMars announces a new photographic mural 35 by 614 feet hung behind tellers cages. The mural, capturing local farming business and recreation, was assembled in Chicago and installed by Becker brothers after months of work. Future renovations will highlight the mural with new drapes paint and spotlights for night viewing from outside.

The Plymouth County Education Council met January 11 at 4 00 p m in the Le Mars Central Building with representatives from Akron Kingsley Le Mars Merrill Usson Consolidated and rural schools. Delegates Wessling and Suter reported on Iowa State Education Association matters and the council set its stance for the Delegate Assembly. A constitution study was presented and a proposed revised constitution will be brought to the next meeting. A dinner meeting is planned February 16 at Le Mars High School Cafeteria with reservations via Miss Reuwsant. The session included coffee and Danish rolls.

Foxen of Dyersville Dies at 77 After Illness

Joseph Foxen 77, a retired Dyersville farmer and uncle of Lauretta Toren of Remsen and George Foxen of LeMars, died January 8 after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held there Wednesday January 11. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery in Dyersville.

Chris Mueller Chit Mueller 88 farmer dies in Long Beach

Chris Mueller Chit Mueller 88 a longtime farmer and stockman near Tieton died Wednesday at his winter home in Long Beach California. His body returned to Tieton for funeral services and burial with rites at St Paul Pantheran church. Survivors include three children ten grandchildren and one daughter in law. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery and the funeral home managed arrangements. The hunt scheduled for Sunday was canceled due to unusually cold weather at week’s end.

Fire damages Dorr's Hatchery brooder house

A fire at Dorr's Hatchery destroyed the south brooder house around 7:30 PM Thursday. No turkeys were lost. An AU defective heater was reported as the cause. Two Le Mars Fire Department units responded and kept the blaze under control.
