A January 24 meeting of the Permanent Retail Activities committee at the Chamber of Commerce decided to contact all retailers including restaurants and theaters about Friday evening opening and Saturday evening closing. Ed Pill was named chairman to coordinate calls. 39 of 43 merchants contacted approved the plan. A calendar of seasonal promotions and a February kickoff for chamber membership were set, with each bureau managing its own drives and materials distributed at the Eagles Club.

Mrs. Robert Scott dies in Seattle after long illness

Mrs. Robert Scott of Plainview Nebraska died at her daughter’s home in Seattle on January 23 after a year’s illness. Born March 21, 1878, she was a former Plymouth county resident. Funeral set for January 28 in Plainview. Survived by two children Elmer Lorenz of Seattle and George Scott of Longview Washington, three grandchildren, two brothers William Dempster of Nellgh Nebraska and Henry Dempster of LeMars, and sisters Laura Featherston Oak Park Illinois Elizabeth Reeves LeMars among others. Dunns treated after minor accident near Sioux City

Frank Dunn 71 and his wife Alice 71 of Sioux City were treated for minor injuries at St. Joseph Mercy hospital after a collision caused by ice on the pavement. Their daughter Katherine Verschoor 35 of Sheldon operated the car. she and her twins Donald and De Borah were uninjured. The vehicle suffered extensive damage.

At the Le Mary federal Savings and Loan Association annual meeting held January 18, officers were reelected: Hansen as president Kime and Roseberry as vice presidents and Bolser as secretary treasurer. Directors include Hansen Kime Roseberry Claussen Boylan and Van der Meer. The 1955 year showed asset gains, loan growth, and $72,170.60 in dividends amid 673 loans totaling 2.39 million dollars with most secured by first liens on single family homes. Final contracts signed for Albertson plant in LeMars

The LeMars Development Corporation signed final contracts with Albertson and Company and Nemmers Construction for a 592,290 factory on Highway 75. The plant will house the new abrasive division of Albertson Sioux and begin operations next fall, aided by local vocational training.

Wrecked Ford Station Wagon Driver Charged After Intersection Crash

Donali Sides, 16, driving a new 1956 Ford station wagon, collided with a 1948 Chevrolet truck driven by Neal Jongerius, 56, at the highway 33 75 junction north of LeMars. Sides was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and pleaded not guilty. The incident caused about 4000 damage to the wagon and 380 to 400 to the truck with no injuries.
