Remsen Firemen Plan Annual Dance at Avalon Ballroom

The Remsen volunteer firemen announce their annual ball at the Avalon ballroom on Wednesday January 18. Music by Jimmy Thomas and his Orchestra. Proceeds fund the firemen who serve without salary, receiving small stipends and fees. The event allows the public to show support as the fire crew promotes safety with their equipment.

New Trial Granted for Kluckhohn in Raleigh Shooting Case

Richard Paul Kluckhohn 21 son of Dr Clyde Kluckhohn Harvard faculty member and Westmar College apartment resident won a new trial in the North Carolina Supreme Court on a murder charge tied to the accidental shooting of Berneice Seawell a government worker from Arlington Virginia. He was traced to Chapel Hill after being implicated in the May 13 1955 Raleigh incident. His parents prominent scientists faced legal counsel as Kluckhohn formerly studied at the University of Chicago and was already convicted of involuntary manslaughter with a 5 to 10 year sentence. A separate marriage license for Allyn D Holtz and Darlene A Christensen was issued in Woodbury county.

Jack Knerl and Arla Luschen were shaken but unhurt after a forced belly landing of Knerl's two passenger plane near Fort Dodge. En route from LeMars to Rockwell City, fog forced a diversion to Manson then Fort Dodge where the plane touched down on grass by the runway. The propeller blades were broken and the underside damaged. Knerl operates LeMars Motor Co. and Luschen is his employee on a business trip.

German Youth Sees His Hogs Sold at Sioux City

Erhardt Kruesken Moeis Germany and Franz Schnei der Le Man Iowa visited the Sioux City market on Tuesday January 10 observing the sale of 40 head of hogs from Schneider and Bogh Le Mars. The hogs averaged 235 pounds and brought 11 dollars each. Kruesken, a Turemgn farm youth trainee from Germany, had cared for the hogs since they were weaned and had been in the United States seven and a half months to date before returning home soon.

Mrs. Magdalena Ebrecht 91 longtime Plymouth county resident dies at home in LeMars after a lengthy illness. Born in Germany July 31, 1864 she came to the United States as a child and lived in Nebraska before moving to Remsen area in 1895 and LeMars in 1911.
