Hog House Fire Causes Ten Thousand Dollar Loss
Le Mars fire department responded after 2 30 p m Wednesday to Boyd Kehrberg farm near Struble corner Elgin township. An 80 foot hog house burned completely destroying twenty two sows and small pigs with an estimated loss around 10000 dollars. Cause unknown though a suspended propane heater was suspected. Struble fire department aided briefly before returning to Le Mars. Neighbor spotted smoke and alert was given. Fifty sows were in the shed at the time with ten to fifteen escaping.

A Monday afternoon call to the Merrill fire department produced a false alarm after a girl in the Ray singer Emily's home smelled smoke from a smoking slave. No fire, no damage.
