About 500 parents and friends toured the recently renovated St. Joseph's and Gehlen facilities at an open house. The remodel, costing 32000, adds fireproof stairways, new bathrooms, wiring, boiler room upgrades, and fresh paint. The event featured student guides, displays, and a vote on team colors and sports participation for Gehlen high.

South Road hearing eyed for Plymouth county route change

Sioux City highway official Earl Capet outlined a proposed South Road from Le Mary west to No. 29, prompting a public hearing set for 10 am Tuesday January 27 at the Iowa State Highway Commission office in Ames. Farmers and Akron residents fear loss of trade if the Brunsville route is abandoned and a new bridge over the Sioux River to connect with South Dakota roads is built.

Icy Streets Blamed In Three Accidents Injuries Reported

A six year old, Dale Van Voorst, escaped serious injury after being struck by a northbound 1948 Dodge on highway 75 near Ind St. 5. W. The driver Milton D Bossard from Orange City said he could not avoid the child as he crossed. The boy was l imping and bleeding but had no fractures and was resting at home after treatment. Additional crashes occurred on January 17 and January 16 1948 involving a 1951 Dodge a 939 Chevrolet and other vehicles due to slippery streets. Friends mourn the death of Mrs Esther Hurley 78 who had served as housekeeper to Father Schulies and Monsignor Pape in Cherokee Royal Templeton and Le Mars.

New Television Engineering Firm To Open In Le Mars

George Vandertuig, ex Ireton teacher with ten years at Great Lakes naval station, announces Television Specialist Inc will establish a Le Mars branch with him in charge. He and his wife and two children will settle in Le Mars and join St Johns Lutheran church. The firm, which buys Genz Auction House, will install and service all electronics but not sell sets. Branches exist in Colorado towns and Wisconsin. Le Mars will focus on installation then servicing as industry stabilizes.
