Merrill Farmhand Suspect Sought After Robbery

Sheriff Frank Schaller says the Merrill harness shop break-in is nearly solved. He seeks farm hand John H. Bucher, 41 or 42, last seen around Merrill, now on parole violation with Fulda and Mankato ties. Bucher, possibly traveling south and west for milder weather, has wife in Mankato. A police photo is being circulated.

Funeral services for Archer resident Rasmus Pedersen

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Carl M Pedersen home north of Marcus for Rasmus Pedersen of Archer a former Marcus resident who died Friday at a LeMars hospital after a brief illness. Burial was in Ambhermt cemetery at Marcus. Pedersen was born in Denmark and came to the United States at 32. He lived many years at Marcus before moving to Archer. Survivors include three brothers in the United States Carlos near Marcus Anton and Peter in Kimball Nebraska and another brother and five sisters in Denmark.

Three Men Charged With Operating While Intoxicated

Charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated were filed this week against three men. Each pleaded not guilty and appeared Monday before Judge R. G. Rodman for sentencing. As first offenses, the judge imposed a $300 fine, revoked their liquor books and all drivers licenses: Paul Dean Johnson, 21. James McClintock, 29. Peter Deiperdang, 63.

100th Birthday of Mrs Mary Foester Dreier Observed in Doon

Mrs Mary Foester Dreier marked her 100th birthday quietly in Doon with many gifts and cards from friends and relatives. Born near Wartburg Germany on April 25 1853 she lived in Petersburg Iowa and married John A Dreier of New Ulm Minnesota at age 19. The couple farmed 22 years north of Doon before retiring and have eight children with several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1932. Surviving children include Mrs Leonard Stuntebeck of Kimball South Dakota Mrs Susan Kerbergen of Doon and William H Dreier of Savannah Illinois.

Meeting About Retarded Kids in Le Mars High School

Parents and friends of retarded children are invited to hear R. J. Winterstein, state supervisor of special education, speak at Le Mars High School on Thursday January 7 at 8 p.m. in the new activity room. Winterstein will answer questions on educational possibilities for retarded children. This is the second meeting for interested persons following the first held in Le Mars in late November.

Suit Filed by Siouxland Finance Versus VanVoorst in Plymouth County

The Siouxland Finance Company filed a civil action in the District Court of Plymouth County Iowa alleging Andrew H. VanVoorst signed July 25, 1953 a note for 42.42 with default and acceleration. It claims unpaid interest at 2 percent monthly from August 1953 and seeks 4414 plus 5 percent interest from filing and court costs.

Spaulding Pioneer Dies After Sixty-One Years On Westfield Farm

Miles Penfield Spaulding died at his Westfield home in December 1983 at age 74 after years of sickness. Born August 24, 1879 in Woodbury County, he moved to Westfield in 1892 and helped build a local farming business. He served as Sunday school superintendent, township trustee, school board member, church trustee, and member of Freedom Lodge 434 in Akron. Burial followed at Logan Park cemetery.

Mrs Louise Kluter Funeral Services Reported

Mrs Louise Kluter, 80, died at her Ireton home after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday at Stu Putts Lutheran Church at 2 9. m. Surviving daughters include Mrs John Prince of Sioux City and Mrs Martin Dedager of Pe Mar. Sons Ned of Chester S Ds, Carl of Warsaw, and Loun of Ireton. One daughter Herbert loghter of Arcadia California and Mr William Fischer of Bell California listed among survivors. The body was taken to Satterkee funeral home.

Might Appeal In Remsen Locker Case

An indication that the Remsen locker case, decided recently by a jury in a suit brought by Victor Straub against Matt Diederich, might be appealed was seen today in an order for a stenographer's record. The jury sided with Diederich in the $15,000 claim. no appeal noted for payments to Mile Price and Wm. Van Surksum from the Peter Lenis estate, which has until January 17 to file appeal.

Under Doctor's Care Kat Phillips Hurt in Fall

Remsen 14 year old Kat Phillips sustains a bone split and torn ligament in her ankle after stepping into a ground hole while playing in a sanctioned lot with school friends. She will miss several weeks of school. Kay is in a cast and under medical care.

Teen gas pump thefts spark sheriff arrest

Sheriff Frank Scholer reports two Westfield area youths ages 15 and 16 were arrested after a series of depredations by teenagers. They were caught attempting to steal gasoline from a farmer’s barrel and dropped a 5 gallon can. The duo forged a home made crank to operate a gas pump allowing thefts to continue. Farmers reported large, unexplained gasoline disappearances over time.
