Funeral services for Archer resident Rasmus Pedersen
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Carl M Pedersen home north of Marcus for Rasmus Pedersen of Archer a former Marcus resident who died Friday at a LeMars hospital after a brief illness. Burial was in Ambhermt cemetery at Marcus. Pedersen was born in Denmark and came to the United States at 32. He lived many years at Marcus before moving to Archer. Survivors include three brothers in the United States Carlos near Marcus Anton and Peter in Kimball Nebraska and another brother and five sisters in Denmark.

Three Men Charged With Operating While Intoxicated
Charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated were filed this week against three men. Each pleaded not guilty and appeared Monday before Judge R. G. Rodman for sentencing. As first offenses, the judge imposed a $300 fine, revoked their liquor books and all drivers licenses: Paul Dean Johnson, 21. James McClintock, 29. Peter Deiperdang, 63.

100th Birthday of Mrs Mary Foester Dreier Observed in Doon
Mrs Mary Foester Dreier marked her 100th birthday quietly in Doon with many gifts and cards from friends and relatives. Born near Wartburg Germany on April 25 1853 she lived in Petersburg Iowa and married John A Dreier of New Ulm Minnesota at age 19. The couple farmed 22 years north of Doon before retiring and have eight children with several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1932. Surviving children include Mrs Leonard Stuntebeck of Kimball South Dakota Mrs Susan Kerbergen of Doon and William H Dreier of Savannah Illinois.

Spaulding Pioneer Dies After Sixty-One Years On Westfield Farm
Miles Penfield Spaulding died at his Westfield home in December 1983 at age 74 after years of sickness. Born August 24, 1879 in Woodbury County, he moved to Westfield in 1892 and helped build a local farming business. He served as Sunday school superintendent, township trustee, school board member, church trustee, and member of Freedom Lodge 434 in Akron. Burial followed at Logan Park cemetery.

Teen gas pump thefts spark sheriff arrest
Sheriff Frank Scholer reports two Westfield area youths ages 15 and 16 were arrested after a series of depredations by teenagers. They were caught attempting to steal gasoline from a farmer’s barrel and dropped a 5 gallon can. The duo forged a home made crank to operate a gas pump allowing thefts to continue. Farmers reported large, unexplained gasoline disappearances over time.
