Liberty Consolidated School closed for holidays on December 22, reopening January 2 at 8 45 p m. The last semester ends January 5 with the second starting January 6 if weather allows. A large audience attended the Christmas program December 21. Students sold magazines to raise funds for state tournament trips to Des Moines in March. Top sellers included seniors Ken Newspun and Beverly Newberg, juniors Lutes Lehmann and Jen Alatd, sophomores Frank Hollinger, freshmen Sim Beaulieu and Gray Burkett. Shirley Newman led sales with 27 50 receiving a radio. Jim Beatley was runner up with 16. Basketball teams rest for holidays. upcoming away games at Akron and Newkirk precede Plymouth Conference tournament at Remsen. Coach Worton took 12 players to Omaha for a NALA Clinic and Des Moines tournament. Girls sectional pairings place Liberty vs Ireton. Hin ton vs Akron. Westfield vs St Joseph. Accidents affected students Beverly Vondruk in first grade, Larry Yoerger with a hand injury, Patricia Bunning knee injury, Ken Newmann eye cut. The World Insurance Company of Omaha covers most students. School lunch program serves over 4 000 meals since August 22 at minimum 24c per child and 25c for high school and adults. Equipment upgrades include a nut dispenser and other dining items. Typing class awards announce spring speed test winners and bookkeeping awardees.
