Mrs Dorothy Herbst Farewell Funeral In Merrill

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Margaret Herbst 37 of Merrill will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Manning O Toole Chapel in Sioux City burial in Calvary cemetery under that funeral home. Herbst died after a car pedestrian crash at Fourth and Jones streets in Sioux City Sunday morning. Also in hospital is 36 year old Duane Louis Casper of Sioux City injured in the same crash and unconscious. Airman Eugene Neal at Sioux City Airbase was cited for operating a vehicle without a license and investigation. he was released after inquiry. Herbst death marks the second pedestrian fatality at Fourth and Jones this year. Coroner Dr Thomas L Coriden said an autopsy will determine cause. no coroner inquest yet. Her blood alcohol 215 mg per cent. Neal 34 mg. McCann 3 mg. Herbst born July 19 1921 in Mission SD, survived by parents, two daughters Susan Kay and Jean Marie, two sisters, and former Liberty Consolidated student. She had moved to Merrill 22 years ago and recently collected alimony. Casper is a former Ellendale resident.

First Aid Course At City Library Planned

Reorganization Petitions Circulated in 25 Districts

Petitions were circulated Saturday and today in 25 school districts across Le Mars Merrill area requesting an election to form a new community district. Some districts would be included in whole, others only in part, with meetings set across the area to discuss the plan and dates announced for hearings.

Two Young Men Named Naval Academy Candidates

Robert Reid Shepherd 18, son of Mr and Mrs Joel T Shepherd of 822 Fourth St S E Le Murs, is named by Congressman Charles B Hoeven as a principal candidate for the Naval Academy at Annapolis for the July 1959 class. Also named was Richard Kane 17, son of Mr and Mrs R E Kane of Sioux City for the same designation. Both were selected for scholastic and physical aptitude shown in preliminaries and must now pass entrance exams to join the midshipmen class.

Akron couple seeks divorce in district court

Barbara Dimmick of Akron files for divorce from Dick G. Dimmick. The petition states they married February 1954 and are parents of two sons, Dennis Lee age 4 and Lanny Ray age 2, with another child expected. Plaintiff seeks justifiable relief from the court.

Borchers to Recruit Farm Labor for Brunsville Area

Jack and Virgil Borchers of Borchers Grain and Feed Co at Brunsville are named volunteer farm labor representatives for the Sioux City Iowa Employment Service office for Brunsville and surrounding territory for 1959. They invite farmers needing help to contact them, and urge unemployed farmhands and seasonal workers to seek work. They will work with Lowell F. Anderson via the Sioux City office to ensure farm labor needs are served at no charge.

Farm Bureau Scholarship Deadline and Legislative Trip Plans

The first day to apply for the Farm Bureau Scholarship is February 21. Last year’s graduates and this year’s may apply. The scholarship applies to any college offering training for teachers or related teaching fields. The Legislative chairman is finalizing plans for a legislative trip visiting both Senate and House, with possible dinner with the Senator and Representative. Time permitting, other Farm Bureau program activities will be covered at the YWCA with coffee and donuts served.

Sylvia Johansen, a junior music education major in the College of Fine Arts, was among 114 women students in the top 20 percent of their departments honored at a Mortar Board Recognition Tea at the University of South Dakota. Parity Prices Down In Plymouth County Report

Parity prices for farm products fell about 3 1/3 percent in January 1959, due to rising production costs and greater efficiency.
