Origin of the Farm Bureau and its development
The Farm Bureau did not spring from any single man or group. Beginning in the 1870s farmers formed groups to address economic and legislative issues aided by the 1862 Homestead Act and rail expansion. County agents emerged by 1910, funded by state and local groups, and the first Farm Bureau name appeared in Broome County New York around 1910. The American Farm Bureau Federation formed in 1919, evolving into a national organization focused on legislation education and services. The U S Department of Agriculture ordered the Farm Bureau to cease supporting the county agent and Extension program, which are now tax funded separately. County Farm Bureau operations run through township directors with field staff and delegates linking county to state policy.

Funeral for Gene Robbins Held in Akron Church
Funeral services for Gene Arkin Robbins seven year old son of Mr and Mrs Marion J Robbins were conducted Thursday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran Akron. He died in a February 3 auto crash near his home in Lexington Kentucky. Rev David J Roy officiated with Mrs Milton Anderson as soloist and Mrs H Shochberg on organ. Interment followed at Pleasant Valley cemetery Adaville. Gene was born August 16 1939 in Sioux City and left behind three boyfriends two other youths died in the crash and one was seriously injured. He was a brother of Mrs James Kennedy and a grandson of Mrs Bertha Erikson. He helped usher at the Kennedy wedding last August. He was nephew of Mrs Hears Bughre.
