Mr and Mrs Tom Burke reported to Hawarden police the poisoning of their eight year old short haired German pointer. The dog died in a wire enclosed pen near their home at 140 Central Avenue late Saturday night or early Sunday. A veterinarian described the death as horrible. The Burkes declined offers up to 100 dollars for Mike, preferring to keep him as a pet.

Two Men Held After Possession of Burglary Tools
Sheriff Frank Scholer reports two Sioux City men, Delear Milton Badwin aged 33 and William Butcher aged 34, were arrested in Sioux City and jailed on suspicion of possessing tools usable for burglary. Officials say there is no clear link to a Fonda break in, and the men claimed financial distress but denied involvement with the Fonda incident. They were spotted in the northeast part of town and detained on Highway 78 as they left.

Arvin Altena 34 year old son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Altena of Sioux Center permanently loses sight in the right eye after an accident at home Monday morning. He grabbed scissors, stumbled, and fell, the instrument piercing the eye. He received first aid locally and was taken to Lutheran hospital in Sioux City. A specialist said 1 to 10 days would tell if the eye could be saved, though sight cannot be restored.

Change In Egg Law Is Possibility In Iowa
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Clyde Spry told the Gilche Post a bill may repeal the Egg Grading law. He said consumers pay about 43 a dozen for some eggs and many shoppers cannot tell if eggs bought are Grade A. Wayne Francis Fiedler of Ovens Ta faces a preliminary hearing at 2 pm Tuesday before Municipal Judge George M Paradise in Stan City on a driving while intoxicated charge. He also faces trial for failing to stop at a red light and intoxication after a Thursday collision at Fourth and Court streets. Stan City resident Byron Bayne suffered a head injury and was hospitalized. Passenger Ray Po Fiedler, 47, of Ovens Ta, was charged with intoxication. Both men pleaded innocent, posted bonds, and were released.
