Five petitions filed in county district court seek a total of 127651.25 dollars in damages from Roger Nelson 18 of Marcus and his father Roy Nelson after a August 20 1953 auto crash near Marcus killed two people and injured four. LeRoy Peters and John Calhoun died. Mrs Calhoun Mrs Peters and Ruby Ann Peterson were injured. Peters estate seeks 36540.80 dollars. Calhoun estate asks 20235.45 and 35000 for permanent injuries. Peters also seeks 20000 for injuries and 775 for the car.

Le Mars funeral directors report a new grave digging charge of 30 dollars for adults and 10 dollars for infants set by the Le Mars Cemetery Association. The raise follows a history of increases from 5 to 18 to 20 then 25 dollars. St Joseph and St James cemeteries have followed the city schedule. Calvary Cemetery, formed by merging the two, is not planning an increase. Memorial Lane author S H Luken notes gravediggers once earned good pay digging two graves at five dollars each.

Bee Expert Rescues Westfield Family From Bee Invasion
DeSmet resident John Guntren aided Alfred and Mrs Knecht of Westfield after a bee swarm invaded their home. Guntren used a cyanide gas method to kill bees hidden in walls, clearing the house by evening. Le Mars expert John Haag noted limited honey due to weed sprays reducing forage for bees this year.

Two Vehicle Crash and Bridge Collision Reported
An accident occurred February 10 at 121 Sid St Le Mars when William Blatt driving a 1939 Chevrolet hit a 1940 DeSoto parked in front of the T K Chapman residence. Damage to Chapman's DeSoto was $40 and Blatt's right fender $50. A separate collision on Floyd bridge near Le Mars at about 10 25 p m involved Lawrence Klauson in a 1953 Cadillac and Glenwood Meldon in a 1952 Chevrolet truck. Klauson sustained left leg lacerations and was treated at Sacred Heart hospital. damage to Klauson's car estimated at $700.

Cherokee Times reports Abe Mazvinsky owner of Ames Fruit and Grocery Market forgave a youth who returned most of the $238 stolen. Donald B. Fester, 20, pleaded guilty to nighttime theft in Municipal Court and received a $300 fine, six month suspended sentence, and parole to his father. After returning loot and showing remorse, Fester was offered a job by Mazvinsky. Grandman, partner in Cherkee Fruit and Wholesale, also owns stores in Le Mars.

New Surgery For Rootman Tomorrow
John Rootman, injured in a car accident four weeks ago near Sioux Falls, S D, will undergo surgery at Sioux Hospital at 8 00 a m Friday. He has been in traction with a severe right leg injury to be set and fitted with a plate and two pegs above the knee. Mrs Roetman will be with him during the operation. He has shown slow progress after four weeks of pain and a period of unconsciousness following the crash.

Supreme Court upholds verdict in left arm case
The Iowa Supreme Court upheld a $25 000 judgment won by Bernard Prokop of Remsen against Joseph C. Houser and Marvin Rath of Ida Grove for a left arm amputation after a side swipe by a truck. The court found no instruction on protruding an arm from a car window was proper.
