Merrill, chosen for a central location and strong transport links, will host Plymouth county’s first anhydrous ammonia plant by Farmers Fertilizer Inc. The firm filed incorporation with the secretary of state led by Ray Anderson, with Brown and Kennedy in officers. The plant will store and dispense ammonia in soil-friendly, water-free form, under 200 pounds pressure, with transport to farms in 150-gallon tanks.

Mrs. Cleone Zimmer Dies After Long Illness in Le Mars
Cleone L. Ford Zimmer wife of Le Mars businessman William Zimmer died February 7 at Sacred Heart hospital after a three week hospitalization. Born July 6 1909 in Creston Iowa she later moved to Forest City and Chillicothe Missouri before settling in Le Mars where she led the Western Union office. She married William Zimmer June 11 1934 at St Josephs Te Mars and they had six children Diane Susan Wins Eileen Donald David and Jeanne all at home. Survived by husband and children, also mother of Orville Ford Char Lake Iowa and a brother Donald. funeral at St Josephs Catholic church with burial in Calvary cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at Wiltgen Luchthe funeral home and viewing continues until services.

Reckless Driver Fined After Fatal Accident In Iowa
Richard Clarence Karswens, 47, of Sieux City, appeared in LeMars police court and pled guilty to reckless driving. He was fined 43 and paid 7 cons. and 15 days suspended. The fatal crash occurred on a stretch between Le Mars and Merrill when Joy D. Whitmer’s car struck a bridge abutment at high speed, veered off, hit a tree, and killed him. Whitmer, 38, of Merrill, formerly of Witmer, Minnesota, was employed by the Great Northern Railway Co. and died of a skull fracture and broken neck. funeral services were held in Merrill.
