Bernice Antoinette Laut a longtime Le Mars school teacher died December 17 1957 at a Cherokee hospital after several weeks illness. She was born June 23 1887 in Le Mars and aged 70. She lived in Cherokee last two and a half years and taught 42 years in Le Mars Public Schools. Funeral December 19 at Mauer funeral home with Rev Gildner officiating burial in Le Mars city cemetery. Survivors include sisters Miss Lucie D Laux and Miss Russell Laux of Le Mars.

Suit For Highway Block Is Settled
A damage suit by Bud Ross Ervin Blaue Charlie Willams and Darwin Johnson against Krage and Jensen Sioux City contractors who widened and repaid highway 75 past the town edge was settled out of court after two days of trial and jury selection. The settlement amount was not disclosed though a nominal sum is implied. The plaintiffs contended the highway closure during modernization under Iowa Highway Commission contract impeded business.

Judge T Ellay suspended the sentence to parole her to Plymouth County Welfare head Billi Hemphill due to dependent children. The couple resided in Freton and Le Mars communities, later moving to Le Mars upon retirement about 20 years ago. They have two daughters, Mrs Francis Wood of Brookings SD and Mrs Mike Johnson of Le Mars, plus two grandsons.

Floyd Fuller as Spencer and Rosane Simpson of Merci received a marriage license at the Plymouth County Clerk's Office this week. A Dale Johnson 1953 Oldsmobile rolled into a ditch after cattle were driven across the road near the Marion De Raad farm east of Le Mars, injuring Beverly Van Buskirk who was riding with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson. She was hospitalized at Sacred Heart and has since recovered. the sheriff's office investigated the 9:30 am Wednesday crash. The Dale Johnsons live in Remsen and Miss Van Buskirk in Kingsley.

Farm Fire Destroys Family Home in Le Mars Area
A farm home near Le Mars was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon. Meo Mis, Armold Ott, and house chef Joe Frelding lived there. two small children were at home during the blaze. The fire, starting in the back porch where a kerosene heater was used, spread rapidly, with water supply running short and external tank water needed. The Otts were uninsured. Mrs Ott worked at J.C. Penney in Le Mars and a community collection was planned to replace clothing lost. The farm, five miles southwest and two south, will be operated by James Ortmann. decisions on moving a horse or other arrangements remain pending.

Moeller longtime resident to be buried at Pleasant Hill
Funeral services for Martin Moeller 92 lifelong resident will be held at St Pauls Lutheran Church Friday December 20 at 2 p.m. with a 1:30 p.m. short service at the home. He died Tuesday morning at Hawarden hospital after months of illness. Burial at Pleasant Hill cemetery with Satterlee fun eral home in charge. Born in Schleswig Germany July 20 1865 he came to the U.S. at 17 and settled in Sioux county. He married Tina Zimmerman in 1890 who died in 1910. Four children 13 grandchildren 18 great grandchildren. He remarried December 2 1920 to Lizzie Weber and they resided in Breton. His stepdaughter Mrs George Holdorf of Holland Minnesota survives.
