Mrs Frances Mayrose of 316th Ave NE Le Mars returned from a visit to Fonda Iowa to find a chimney fire at her home extinguished Saturday evening. Fire department responded around 5 30 but no evidence of fire or damage was found. An upstairs apartment was vacant at the time.

Four Plead Guilty In O'Brien County OMVs
Four O'Brien County men pleaded guilty Tuesday in district court to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Three were fined 300 each. one, a second offender, was sent to Fort Madison. Also, Peter Kooiska pleaded guilty to a second offense and received up to one year in Fort Madison. Realtor Pavlik sold farmland nearby for $150 an acre.

Truck Fire After Crash With Abutment Near Hinton
William Shibley, 45, of Van Buren Arkansas, was hospitalized with a severe forehead cut and chest injuries after a 1957 Chevrolet truck hit a bridge abutment on highway 75 at 4 15 am Saturday. Patrolman Lyle Pell and Deputy Jim Mertes reported the truck caught fire, which Merrill fire department extinguished. the vehicle was a total loss. Shibley was taken to St Josephs hospital in Siena City by a passerby.

Robert L Gatton, 44, of Military Road, Sioux City, was sentenced to five years in Fort Madison State Penitentiary after a jury found him guilty of assault with intent to rape an 18 year old Hawarden girl near Stone Park on June 9. Gatton posted a $2000 appeal bond. Co defendants Forest Mouston, 30, of North Sioux City, received 20 years. Mouston had a prior rape record. Johan Edwards, 19, of Dacoath Street, remains to be tried.
