Budd Duvall of Northwest Iowa Power Co op announced that electric power from Fort Randall dam at Pickstown South Dakota will be available next spring depending on snow and water. The 230000 volt line to the Hinton Sioux City sub station on highway 75 is complete and stringing was done by Utilities Construction Co of Nashville Tennessee. Sub station work by Gustav Hirsch Co of Columbus Ohio continues and should finish by June. Lines will extend across northwest Iowa from this sub station.

Watershed Meet Held In Floyd Valley Association Plans Progress
The Floyd Valley Watershed Association board met Thursday November 18 at the Farm Bureau office in Le Mars with twenty directors from Sioux City Plymouth Sioux and O Brien counties in attendance. Chairman George Euson led discussions on the year’s achievements including 300 new members and a plan to unite local groups to track watershed progress. Speakers Allen Schroeder Des Moines secretary of the Iowa Association of Soil Conservation Districts and Lewis Culker Castana reported on conservation efforts and watershed progress while Elmer J Lund emphasized complete water control. Board members agreed to appoint readers from each minor watershed and Joe Clarey outlined Extension Service educational activities. The group discussed construction needs and affirmed terracing as a key practice to hold water in place.

Free Christmas movies draw 1000 plus kids at Royal theater
Over 1,000 boys and girls filled the Royal theater Saturday for free Christmas movies. A second show from 10 to 4 will occur this week with similar crowds. The Globe-Post reports plans for more free screenings next year and notes potential three Saturdays of free movies. Tickets were needed for admission and 33 local firms offered free tickets to their customers for upcoming shows.

James Frost longtime Grand Mound newspaperman dies
James Frost of Grand Mound Iowa former Merrill resident dies at home Sunday morning November 28 age 77. Born October 3 1877 in Mildenhall England he came to the United States in 1890 with his uncle William Frost. He worked on several papers including Thomson Lost Nation and launched The Grant Mound Record about 17 years ago. He is survived by his wife Elsie a daughter Mrs. E K Crosby and a grandson Edward James Crosby. Funeral services were held at the Kelly funeral home Grand Mound with graveside rites by the K P L lodge.
