Remsen to fete Roy Maass for Black Jewel victory

Roy Maass and associates in producing Black Jewel, grand champion Angus steer, will be honored in Remsen, December 6. The steer sold at $21.60 per pound, weighing 1,035 pounds, for $22,356, third highest on record. Wayne Maass co-owned. Darlene Hansen is his girlfriend. The couple plans marriage and a farm near Remsen.

Plastic Balloon Observed Near Sun Over Le Mars

A large white plastic balloon was seen near the sun at Le Mars around noon, shining by reflected sunlight. It moved slowly toward the southeast. Santa Claus is due to arrive tomorrow by helicopter or plane, but no balloon was mentioned in connection with the visit. The balloon is believed to be one of several sent up for scientific observation.

A car driven by Gerald Lubben, traveling west, struck a curb at 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of 4th Street and 1st Avenue Southeast. The impact damaged the right front by about $140 and threw the car sideways, tearing the back door as well.

CROP Ingathering planned in Plymouth County Saturday

CROP publicity director Rev Alvern Kitrade stated the ingathering day will involve countywide canvassing. Death of Daniel J. Doherty long time Sioux County resident

Daniel J. Doherty aged 99 died Wednesday December 2 at Sacred Heart Hospital after a fall. Born March 1 1860 in Clinton County Iowa he moved to Maurice area in 1885, later living there before retiring to Maurice. Survived by son M.
