Remsen Youth Killed In Alley Collision Near Ovens Corner

Danne Loran Schroeder 15, son of Mr and Mrs Ray Schroeder of Rt 1 Remsen was killed when a 1955 Dodge driven by Terry Dunne of Le Mars struck his Cushman scooter on a farm lane four miles south and 244 miles east of Ovens Corner at about 7 20 p m Sunday. Patrolman Lyle Pell said Schroeder died of a broken neck after the scooter was struck, with multiple injuries. Danne’s car and the scooter were wrecked, Danne was thrown from the auto and injured. no criminal action is planned as officials deem the crash accidental. Funeral services for Daniel Schroeder will be held Wednesday at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with burial in the church cemetery. Survivors include two sisters and two brothers. Funeral home Fisch of Remsen is handling arrangements. A wake is planned Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Lenihan Escapes Injury In Narrow Car Rollover

Denny Lenihan, 42, of Le Mars, escaped injury when his 1945 Chrysler Newport rolled into a ditch on highway 75 south of Hinton. The car was demolished and Lenihan was unhurt. Patrolman Lyle Pell investigated and the vehicle was towed to Stops Brothers Body Shop. In Des Moines Ralph Shelton of Leon was badly hurt after falling 60 feet while repairing a windmill at the YMCA boys home on Merle Hay Road. he fell into mud, which likely saved his life.

Le Mars Public Schools Staff Of Seventy Six Detailed

A Le Mars public schools directory lists 76 staff members for 1150 students starting the new year on September 4. Westfield Community School To Start August 27

Westfield Community School opens the 1956-57 year on Monday August 27 with Superintendent Robert J. McLean and staff covering commercial English home economics science and classes from first grade through seventh. A math teacher remains to be appointed. A correction notes a missing egg yolk in a lemon filling recipe in the What's Cooking column.

Cherokee Boy Suffered Broken Neck In Car Wreck

Frank Moore a 19 year old of Cherokee suffered a broken neck when the car driven by Robert Mundy 20 of Kingsley missed a curve on highway 3 near Branch turn east of Le Mars about 1 a m Sunday. Mundy had a broken left rib and right shoulder while Moore lay severely injured in the back seat. Ambulances from Luken and Ludtke rushed to the scene and both Moore and Mundy were taken to the hospital for treatment. Onlookers and Cherokee Times photographer documented the crash with two pictures from the scene.

The Plymouth County 4 H and Agricultural Fair opened today with entries and exhibits filling buildings and grounds. Thousands lined Le Mars main street Friday night to applaud a grand drum corps show by the Le Mars Drum & Bugle Corps champions. About $400 was raised from spectators and businessmen. a deficit of about $1,500 to $2,000 remains for travel to Los Angeles for the national convention. Zimmer Named Jeffersonian of the Week in Jefferson

Louis J. Zimmer, a long time Remsen and Le Mars native, is named Jeffersonian of the Week by the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. He manages the Gamble store in Jefferson and has returned after seven and a half years in Shenandoah. Zimmer is a graduate of St. Joseph's High School, formerly a decorator in Le Mars, married in Remsen in 1935 to Bernice Schiltz. They have two children, Carol and Pat, both in Shenandoah. He served with the Army Combat Engineers 1944 to 1946 and remains active in the American Legion Knights of Columbus Holy Name Society and the Jefferson Chamber. The family lives at 704 W. Madison.
