Freak Wreck At Eden Dale Involves Two Cars

A freak collision occurred near Eden Dale on Tuesday night around 6:20 PM when Lowell A. Goodrich of Hawarden hit Harry Halwey of Merrill in a 1949 Plymouth. Halwey 60, stopped at a service station when a loud explosion was heard. both cars sustained damage valued at about 325 dollars. Goodrich had chest pain but declined medical aid.

Weidhauer denies rumor of farm contract revolt

Weidhauer of Plymouth county ASC said there is no organized farmer uprising against Land Bank contracts. He described talk of passive resistance as mutterings of a small minority and warned there is no schedule of penalties in the land bank law. He noted many farmers may face cash shortages next season and questioned why anyone signed up.

New oat varieties Burnett and Newton released in Plymouth County

Two new oat varieties, Burnett and Newton, will be released in a limited quantity by 10 Plymouth County seed producers this year. Arlie A. Pierson says Burnett is a white midseason type with test weight advantages and disease resistance, while Newton shows crown rust resistance but is susceptible to Septoria and is still trew. Applications due August 31 at the Plymouth County Extension office, $6 per bushel for Burnett and $4 for Newton F.O.B. Ames.

Schneider daughter Lyanne of Alton and Sasha Malamed of Philadelphia wed in Corpus Christi Church New York City on August EL. Lyanne earned a 1952 St Marys Academy diploma Briar Cliff BA and MFA from Iowa. Tritz Is Jailed After His Bail Bond Check Bounced

Cyril V. Tritz of Remsen, involved in a Remsen alley fight, was jailed in Orange City briefly after a bounced $300 bail bond check. Charged with assault with intent to do great bodily injury, he posted bond again when a relative paid the amount. Victim Roger Mortensback was moved to a veterans hospital in Des Moines after the incident.

4-H Achievement Day Held by Le Mars Lassies

On August 9 the Le Mars 4-H group called Achievement Day met with eight girls and their leader. No new business. Members chose four portfolios and four wastebaskets from finished projects to exhibit at the fair. Exhibits include dresser scarves dressing tables book shelves and refinishing old furniture Sally Wensel hosted and served as Historian Selly Wensel.

Large 4-H Entries Highlight Plymouth County Fair

Large numbers return to the Plymouth County Fair with 14 purebred swine litters and 70 pens totaling about 340 head. Sheep entries reach 48 head, Baby Beef lists 268 head and six breeding beef heifers. Dairy shows 26 head while 27 horses and ponies join in. Market rabbits total six pens and four pens of poultry also listed.

Funeral services for Mike Jentges 80 in Heron Lake

Funeral services for Mike Jentges 80 who died in a Heron Lake Minnesota hospital will be held at 9:30 am Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in a Heron Lake cemetery. Born October 30 1875 in Luxembourg he immigrated to the United States in 1900 settling in Le Mars Iowa later living in Sioux City and Heron Lake. Survivors include his widow four sons including Arnold of Sioux City and a daughter Mrs Joe Sfest of Heron Lake.

Bohike To Play Varsity Football

Ken Bohlke of Le Mars is among forty Morningside College varsity players invited back for all drills starting September 1. The Maroons will train twice daily for two weeks preparing for the opener September 15 against Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln. They then host Omaha University on September 22 to begin the home schedule.

Liberty School Set to Open August 27

The Liberty Consolidated School opens Monday August 27 at 8 45 am with staff largely unchanged.
