Flood control talks draw 300 at 4-H fairgrounds

About 300 residents gathered at the 4-H fairgrounds to discuss flood control in the Floyd River Basin. Col Menon W Whitsitt said temporary storage reservoirs are mandatory while preserving rich soil remains a local decision. Rep Charles Hoeven opened the meeting as Ethan A Norton of the SC Conservation service outlined the view that channel work alone cannot provide flood relief.

Peters Rites Held For Mrs C H Peters At Hinton

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran church east of Hinton for Mrs C Henry Peters 47 who died Tuesday after a three month illness. Born June 4 1906 at Hinton she married in 1924 and was a member of the Ladies Aid at Poimiv church. Survived by two sons Richard and Merlin, a daughter Linda, two sisters Mrs August Hay and Mrs Richard Hay, and three grandchildren.

The national organization will transmit contributions to the Greek Red Cross to assist victims, with 200000 left homeless and 50,000 initial funds for medical supplies and blankets.
