Strong Opposition To Open Deer Season In Plymouth County

A Plymouth County petition with 600 signatures urges the state conservation commission to deny a deer hunting season. Farmers and businessmen across the county warn deer numbers are insufficient and hunting could threaten livestock and people. Opposition also runs along the Big Sioux River with farmers fearing deer damage will grow as hunting expands. Betty Hames of Remsen visited the Bornhorst couple in Le Mars this week.

Le Mars Ordinance Amends Building Code Provisions

City of Le Mars Iowa amends Title 1 Chapter 70 Building Code to tighten setbacks for frame buildings and proposals outside fire limits. Sets minimum lot size, front building line, and garage setbacks, with exceptions for certain Young and Corkery additions and fire district. Requires detailed permits from Mayor with Council approval, and public notice before outside-fire-limit construction. Passed June 3, 1952 by Mayor R J M Long.

City prohibits keeping cattle goats swine domestic fowls domestic rabbits ferrets or mink in any building or premises without a permit from the City Health officer. Buildings yards and enclosures for these animals must be kept clean and free from filth dirt and stagnant water. All permits expire annually and may be withdrawn by the Board of Health at any time.

Death by Own Action Bridge Mishap Reported

Mrs. Robert Sherrill was hospitalized at noon after a car crash on death by own action bridge near Merrill on highway 75. A Studebaker driven by Mr. Sherrill overturned. he was unhurt while Mrs. Sherrill, 31, was semi conscious and bruised. Their daughter Venita, 4, of Minneapolis, was treated as an outpatient.

Wallace Philips of Remsen cited for Pwo sive speed with a $75 fine. Cormelius Vesser fined $15 for failing to keep car under control. Gerry VanSurken cited for speeding with a $12.50 penalty.

Accident on Highway 33 at Junction with 73

Florence Van Pof driving a 1949 Pontiac halted at a stop sign at the junction of highways 33 and 73 when a car coming from the south driven by Howard Stowe collided with the Van Pof vehicle around 8:30 p.m on Friday August 14.

Sheriff denies Perry Creek shooting report amid car damage claims

Sheriff Frank Scholer said no shooting occurred last week near Perry Creek road. Complaints centered on children using sling shots and air rifles targeting passing cars along Mallette Corner road, causing dented doors. Parents offered to pay for repairs. city ordinance prohibits sling shots and air rifles in Le Mars with potential misdemeanor prosecutions.

Miss Hester Ann Pitts daughter of Mrs Chauncey Wells Pitty of Le Mars married Lewis Paul Newton of Kalamazoo Michigan in a garden ceremony at the bride's mother home. An open house followed. Miss Pitts a Grinnell College graduate formerly a teenage pregnancy director at the Sioux City WCA. Newton earned a chemical engineering degree at the University of Maine and works in research at Western College Kalamazoo for Kalamazoo River Improvement Co.

Krause services held for Dale W. Krause Jr in Sioux City

Graveside services were held at Memorial Park in Sioux City for Dale William Krause Jr who died Wednesday August 12. Rev. F J Wamp officiated. The child was survived by his parents Dale and Kim Krause of Hinton and grandparents Mr and Mrs Frank Ketsback and Sam Weinrich in a brief memorial notice.

Marlene Dekkers daughter of Mr and Mrs John Dekkers of Hawarden died after ill health. Funeral services were held at Lebanon Christian Reformed Church with burial in the church cemetery. Survived by her triplet sister, brother Maxine May and Mar von Jay, Anthony John and Warren Lloyd, grandmother Mrs Jake Kooi ma of Rock Valley. Floyd Valley Watershed Group Formed In Iowa

The Floyd Valley Watershed Association was formed Friday night at the Farm Bureau office with representatives from all affected northwest Iowa counties. Dick Bullard and Wayne Pritchard joined by Dick Wilcox attended. A membership drive will fund the 1953-54 year, with blanks distributed to farms and readers invited to mail in with a dollar. A committee led by Carl Schelin will draft a constitution, aiming to make the group productive and to solidify soil conservation efforts across the region.

Emmet Dillon Bound For Grand Jury In Spencer Case

Emmet Dillon a 49 year old Sioux City tavern operator accused in the death of his wife was bound over to the Spencer grand jury on a preliminary hearing. Justice W H Lewis set bond at 50000 but it was not posted and Dillon remained in county jail. The state says Dillon beat and choked Wanda Dillon whose body was found in a Spencer hotel room and the defense contends possible accidental injury. Stockberger testified he and Mrs Dillon were in the hotel room when Dillon attacked her then left the room leading to the discovery of the body. The hearing included a clash over Stockberger’s and Dillon’s attorney presence and testimony about possible prior relations and the fight in the room.

Interested men in LeMars will meet Monday evening August 24 at St. James Hall for the organizational meeting of the J Club. Gehlen football adds team with first practice announced

Gehlen introduces football for the year with August practice starting at 2:00 p.m. Two sessions daily except Sundays begin at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. A seven game schedule includes four home and three away. Succeeds Florence Iowa democrats Saturday named Donald Mitchell of Fort Dodge and Mrs Alberta M Kelly of Nichols as iatornal committeeman and committeewoman. The selections were made by delegates to the 1952 national convention in an afternoon session that lasted less than two hours. United States Senator Guy M. Gillette presided at the meeting. Mrs Kelly succeeds Mrs Florence Lynch of Le Mars as committeewoman. Mrs Lynch died in Washington state last April. The General Chairman Meeting of the Plymouth County wide Chest Xray Program financed by Plymouth County Tuberculosis and Health Association the State Dept of Health the Iowa Tuberculosis and Health Association and the Iowa Heart Association was held at the Court House in Le Mars on August 13 1953 at 8 P M.
