Farm Equipment Dealers Report Slump Across Midwest

The entire commercial exhibit building has been rented, says Mr Al Becker secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and supervisor for reservations. Machinery space is already filled by county dealers who will back the Farm Safety effort by displaying 4 H club red flags on farm tractors. Flags are for farmers seeking to improve highway traffic safety.

Plymouth county fair baby beef auction set for Aug 19

The Plymouth county fair hosts the 6th annual baby beef auction Wednesday evening at 7 30. Auctioneers Richards Auden and Adams of Le Mars and Mosale will run the sale with The First National Bank of Le Mars clerking. A committee aims to speed calf loading after the sale, addressing bottlenecks from prior years. Last year the sale averaged 33 87 and grossed 30841 with 159 calves sold, 180 head the year before. about 170 head expected this year.

Lightning strikes kill eight cattle at Merrill farm

A lightning bolt struck Harold Wright’s farm eight miles west of Merrill Monday night, killing eight cattle that were gathered under a tree. No other damage was reported to the Wright property.

July milk output across 24 herds totals 3298 cows

The Plymouth Woodbury Dairy Herd Improvement Association tested 24 herds totaling 3298 cows in July. Odin Bradshaw reports an average of 834 pounds of milk per cow and 30.8 pounds of butterfat including dry cows. Arthur Meyer of Holstein Iowa has two cows with 305 day records. Plymouth county dairymen Fred Artz Leonard Applegate and Wm Stover from Kingston had cows completing lactation. The annual meeting is planned for September at Mosville. Mr Bradshaw says
