County Fairs and 4-H Progress Highlight Midwest Life
The Plymouth County 4-H group, over 400 youths, prepare exhibits for the August county fair while notes on ag practices, corn borer timing, drought concern, and oat and alfalfa varieties fill columns. The author contrasts old county fairs with modern, resourceful displays and urges open churches to educate robust citizens.

Plymouth Soil Conservation District honored with commemorative stamp
The Plymouth Soil Conservation District is one of over 2,800 districts honored by a commemorative soil conservation stamp issued by the post office department. The stamp, a 4 cent three color design, depicts a modern conservation farm and will be issued August 26 at Rapid City South Dakota at the annual meeting of the Soil Conservation Society of America. The Plymouth district organized July 14, 1946, has 571 cooperators and 405 with basic conservation plans. District officers include Walter Muecke Hinton Donald Luchen and Harald E Johnson with technical assistance from the Soil Conservation Service. Since June 30 1958, 64 landowners became cooperators, 50 soil and water conservation farm plans were developed, and 17 miles of terraces built. Citizens are urged to reseed waterways degraded by erosion with a grass legume mix and adequate fertilization.
