Big Scout Jamboree at Sea Beach Ends Safe Despite Rife Risks

At the national jamboree near a mile-long beach, 92,000 participants swam daily with rigorous safety for six days. Gordon Schmitz Returned From Korea Prisoner of War

The Army informed Mr and Mrs Mike Schmitz that their son Sgt Gordon M Schmitz has been returned to US control in Korea and will travel home by surface transport soon The 23 year old served since 1948 and was captured in November 1950 While a POW he wrote letters expressing hope for UN and communist truce terms and longing to leave He is one of nine children in the family of eight siblings living at 335 1st St SE des Moines.

Arden Siebens To Direct Hometown Band Concert

Arden Siebens, formerly of Westmar College, will conduct the Farmington Iowa municipal band in a concert at the county fair season. The program includes marches by Roselle Ohio and other standards with guest conductor Arden E. Siebens directing the band, which has played four county fairs in Missouri and Iowa and was invited to the Iowa State Fair Des Moines on September 4. Two concerts are planned before the administration building at 11 and 1, with a special number arranged for this week.

Suit Filed Over Unpaid Merchandise to Akron Implement

The Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. filed suit in Plymouth County District Court against T. V. Dalton doing business as Akron Implement Co. and Akron Implement Co. for $131.15 plus 3 percent interest from November 12, 1952, and costs. The plaintiff claims the defendants owe for merchandise sold and delivered in Sioux City. The filing lists multiple names and model year vehicles or equipment connected to the defendants.

Station Agent D. M. Frank Dies at Le Mars

Dominick M. Frank, station agent at Union Station Le Mars, fell dead in the express office shortly before 1 pm. Coroner says likely natural causes. He was 62, born Nov 11, 1891, in South Dakota, married Philomene Wiebisch in 1910, with one son Silas M. of Fort Dodge. Funeral set for Thursday at St. Joseph's Le Mars. burial Calvary. Le Mars Schools Prep For New Year Amid Openings

Le Mars public schools set to open Monday with Gehlen schools following after Labor Day. Local merchants advertise back to school goods in The Globe-Post as families from Marcus Kingsley and Granville head to Le Mars for better deals and road access. Gehlen grade and high schools will use the former St Joseph building while renovations continue. New staff include Mrs Ruth Casler and Miss Esther Coons among others, with teaching assignments across Franklin and public schools.
