The Spencer hospital reports Earl Whiting in critical condition after a wreck at Death by Own Action Bridge near Merrill. Ernst Hubbard died at the scene, George Kilmer died after arrival at Sacred Heart hospital. The fatalities involve three men, all southbound, with ongoing debates about the bridge’s danger and calls for warnings.
At the national jamboree near a mile-long beach, 92,000 participants swam daily with rigorous safety for six days. Norman Pavlik led Blue Beach as chief checker overseeing buddy checks and zone safety. Despite warnings of drownings, no one was lost, and supervisors coordinated lifeguards, patrols, and a four-color beach division under a Navy-like public address system.

Arden Siebens, formerly of Westmar College, will conduct the Farmington Iowa municipal band in a concert at the county fair season. The program includes marches by Roselle Ohio and other standards with guest conductor Arden E. Siebens directing the band, which has played four county fairs in Missouri and Iowa and was invited to the Iowa State Fair Des Moines on September 4. Two concerts are planned before the administration building at 11 and 1, with a special number arranged for this week.
The Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. filed suit in Plymouth County District Court against T. V. Dalton doing business as Akron Implement Co. and Akron Implement Co. for $131.15 plus 3 percent interest from November 12, 1952, and costs. The plaintiff claims the defendants owe for merchandise sold and delivered in Sioux City. The filing lists multiple names and model year vehicles or equipment connected to the defendants.
Mr and Mrs Warley Hy announce the engagement of their daughter Janetto Merlin Felt of Sibley Iowa to Jons son of Mr and Mrs Hubert Feltz also of Sibley Iowa. The wedding is set for September 2 at St Josephs church Le Mars. Mrs Dorothy Clasen of Los Angeles Calif visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Herman Clasen.
Robert Collett son of Mr and Mrs Will Collett of Onawa first towa boy released from Red prison camp after 33 months as a nephew of Dick Roberts of Le Mars. Mrs Collett and Mr Roberts are siblings. Last letter before release was written in April. same month as Gordon Schmitz of Le Mars received news.
Mr and Mrs Pete Eulberg celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Wednesday August 12 at their home in Afton. An open house is planned from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friends are invited to call and share in the event, and readers are invited to send news to The Globe Post.
The Royal Neighbors plan a Friday afternoon gathering at the home of Mrs. Allen Ruddy on August 14. Herman Jaffer, previously admitted for surgery at Sacred Heart hospital, has departed the hospital and is now recuperating at home.
Dominick M. Frank, station agent at Union Station Le Mars, fell dead in the express office shortly before 1 pm. Coroner says likely natural causes. He was 62, born Nov 11, 1891, in South Dakota, married Philomene Wiebisch in 1910, with one son Silas M. of Fort Dodge. Funeral set for Thursday at St. Joseph's Le Mars. burial Calvary. Survivors: widow, son, two granddaughters. preceded by parents and a brother. He belonged to Holy Name Society. Body at Wittgen Luedtke funeral home after 7 pm Tuesday.
Le Mars public schools set to open Monday with Gehlen schools following after Labor Day. Local merchants advertise back to school goods in The Globe-Post as families from Marcus Kingsley and Granville head to Le Mars for better deals and road access. Gehlen grade and high schools will use the former St Joseph building while renovations continue. New staff include Mrs Ruth Casler and Miss Esther Coons among others, with teaching assignments across Franklin and public schools.
Susan Schepp of Sioux City cited for speeding with a $95 fine. G Roseland of Paullina fined $15 for license issues under Selvin Koerner. The 3rd Order of St. Francis schedules a meeting on Wednesday August 12 at Zils Pom in the Sacred Heart Hospital chapel.
