Plymouth county ASC confirms Soil Bank acreage can be grazed through August 31 1956 in all townships except Meadow and Remsen grazed only with approval. All corn acres over the base must be clipped by August 3 1956 and cannot be grazed. Leasing Soil Bank land is prohibited. Nor can any crop be removed from fields.
The Simonsen Mill Rendering Plant sues Arvin Epling seeking a judgment for 256.55 plus 5 percent interest from February 20, 1956. The suit alleges Epling gave a check for 256.55 drawn on Le Mars Savings Bank that was returned for insufficient funds.
Miss Janice Mary Anthony and Dwane Earl Mickelson wed at St Thomas Episcopal church with Rev F B Shaner officiating. The ceremony featured ornate white flowers and organ music by Miss Kathryn E Anthony. The couple to reside in Colton California after a northern Minnesota trip. A reception followed at Rock hall. A separate note reports a 160 pound calf birth at the Russell Gustafson farm near Ouiboldt.
Market listing shows barley oats soybeans flax and poultry terms. Entries include poultry items like roosters and heavy hens with egg grades A medium and large. Wheat and corn prices hint at agricultural commodity rates.
Jean K Conner and Elmer F Anderson were married July 29 at Glidden Presby terian church with Rev Robert F Chapler officiating. Attendants included Evelyn and Mary Ellen Conner, and decor featured aqua pink gowns and aqua carnations. The couple will live in Akron after a California wedding trip.
The Plymouth County 4-H and Agriculture Show premium books were mailed from Le Mars for rural box holders. The fair runs August 20 to 22 at the 4-H fairgrounds. The premium book is printed by the Le Mars Globe Post. Miss Bernice Rogers attends a weeklong institute at Northwestern University, Chicago, funded by Gregg shorthand. 150 teachers from 27 states and Canada attend.

Medical and surgical patients admitted since July 26 include Mrs. Charles Plueger of Binnsville and Miss Vivian Franch of Marcus, with several others from Minneapolis, Remsen, Le Mars, Oyens, Marcus, and Milwaukee. Births reported to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hatz of Marcus a girl on July 28 and Mr. and Mrs Everett Sams of Merrill a girl on July 30.
Preliminary figures for the Soil Bank Program as of July 30 1956 from the Plymouth County ASC Office to the State Office at Des Moines. Figures show 2486 acreage reserve agreements signed by July 27 1956 and include wheat reserve acres 93 with value 487.00 and corn reserve acres 95,547.47 with value 4,029,278.89.

President Eisenhower signs a landmark social security bill expanding retirement at 62 for employed women and 50 for disabled workers, creating a disability benefit program, raising taxes, and extending coverage to about 225,000 more people including nearly 360,000 working women and 300,000 wives of retired husbands. The measure also increases federal grants to states and extends coverage to many professionals while preserving key restrictions and admin oversight.
Special to the Globe Post reports Plymouth County car owners will pay about 77 000 extra tax by next July as part of a 50 billion road building program. Average driver tax rise is 8 60 per year, largely from a one cent per gallon gas tax increase. Truck owners and states/local governments will share added costs. drivers could see relief later from reduced traffic and shorter trips.
Carter Pitt business manager of the De Mars Sentinel and Floyd Valley Throw-away stated today that reports of a sale to a wealthy out-of-town buyer are unfounded. He said he would consider moneyed interests but no one had approached them.

The Police Station recorded fines for multiple offenders. Sid Berken failed to post flares earning 14 dollars. Larry Green and Jerald Jones were fined for control and speeding respectively. James Mallette and Dan Kelly faced license issues. Judith Hart James Grebble and O F Andreson paid for Stop Sign and speeding infractions. Thomas Daugherty received a $55 fine and a 60 day license suspension recommended.
The Jew Public Service Company cuts gas bills slightly after July 26 as Northern Natural Gas retools rates into a zone system. Zone 2 sees small residential savings while Zone 3 faces higher charges. IPS notes affects Le Mars and nearby towns. Floyd markers Marc Larson and Ole Johnson, both 79, recently returned to Norway for a visit.
Sioux County man sold his stake in KEFM to George Martin DeReyter, former Sioux Center resident now with KIAY Topeka. COF Lovings of Neosha and Rob McCune of Le Mars also sold interests. FCC approval requested for the $37,500 transfer. McCune has no immediate plans.
A Remsen native family the Engberts from Los Angeles were in a fatal crash near Santa Rosa New Mexico last Monday. Two children Margorie 10 and Jeanne 12 died instantly. Mrs Engbert brain concussion broken arm and leg. Mr Engbert multiple injuries and crushed chest. Ronald 8 suffered a broken jaw. Dorothy 10 Sharon 8 Ruth 3 unharmed but under observation. Bodies to Los Angeles for funeral tentatively August 6. Local relatives notified by Louis Kenney.
The storm produced heavy rain in parts of Iowa, with Alton at 1.33 inches and Le Mars at 0.01. Thunderstorms lit the sky as windy conditions and possible tornadoes were monitored but caused no major damage. Rainfall reports spread to Hudson, Reinbeck, Grundy Center, Spencer, Estherville, Fort Dodge, Vermilion, Eli Point, Ponca, Wakefield, Pender, Onawa, Ida Grove and Cherokee, while skies stayed overcast and another rain event was anticipated. Meanwhile Mrs. Mary Canning and Mildred of Newfoundland began their journey home, saying the United States attracted them enough to warrant a weeklong trip back home.
Twenty three F B Y P members journeyed to Fort Randall Dam at Picklestown South Dakota on Sunday July 29 1956. A picnic lunch was enjoyed in a nearby park and a guide gave a tour of the dam. On the return trip the group stopped at Yankton for a refreshing swim. Harvey Berg will be guests at the next F B Y P meeting on August 7 at 8 p.m. at the Girls 4 H Building in Le Mars.
Rainfall in the five county Cornhusker Weather Modification district averaged 77 percent of normal April through June. Surrounding stations averaged 78 percent, fringe stations 1 percent higher, while control stations averaged 71 percent. Project engineer Lew Grant noted spotty rainfall and that silver iodide seeding increases rainfall, with generators moved closer to the target area and numbers increased. Frank Scrivens owner of the Plymouth Manufacturing Co in Le Mars plans to close the shop for a few weeks as farming demand drops. An oil well company from Morgan Colorado has offered him a temporary maintenance position in their machine shop for two to three months. His family will stay in Le Mars during the assignment.
Reader Mrs. Ernest Lucken urges blinkers at the highway 3 and S crossing southwest of Brunsville after a fatal collision. She states visibility is poor from uphill approaches and warns drivers must nearly stop to see an oncoming train.
A treasurer's office release from Le Mars reports that Plymouth county licensed 433 new cars in the first seven months of 1956, compared with 712 in the same period of 1955. Truck licenses numbered 90 in 1955 and 74 in 1956 for the same span.
Iowa safety department authorized 38 fieldmen to enforce traffic laws during regular travels to reduce the highway death toll. Fieldmen will wear new plates with blue stars and carry tickets, first aid kits, and radios while focusing on hazardous violations in civilian dress. Enforcement is voluntary until the legislature can expand the highway patrol.
