Headon Collision On No 75 Sends Three To Hospital

Three people were hospitalized after a headon crash four miles north of Le Mars on Highway 75 at 5:30 p m. Dr Charles Starr, 33 osteopath, and his wife Barbara Starr 29, were pinned in the front seat with facial and scalp injuries and loss of teeth. Dr Starr and his wife suffered cuts and bruises. Barbara Starr was in a new car with under 100 miles. Mrs Wieland ioneer driver of a 1951 Ford Victoria suffered head cuts and was thrown from the vehicle. Opal Witland of Hawarden had head cuts and bruises and was listed as in good condition. Donald Baack of Grant Township first on scene and called the ambulance. Cars were brought to Le Mars by Stops Brothers and declared total losses.

Merrill Fire Dept Called For Farm Blaze

Merrill Fire Department answered a call Monday when sparks from a chimney ignited the Hoffman farm home. Neighbors doused the fire before arrival. damage declared negligible. Farm located 714 miles northwest of Merrill.

Death of Mrs Ida May Dent in Seattle

Ida May Dent widow of A R T Dent former Le Mars real estate man died April 26 in Seattle. Survived by daughter Mrs Wr J Burke and sister Mrs B N Gates. Funeral from Cathedral chapel Seattle, burial Calvary cemetery. She was a daughter of N Richards owner of a 3 story wooden hotel once at the site of McKee Motor Co.

Missionary Rally Planned by Western Group in Iowa D L U C

The Western Group of the Iowa Lutheran Church Women’s Missionary Federation will hold a spring rally at St John’s American Lutheran Church in Preston next Wednesday. About 250 women from multiple area churches will attend. Speakers include Mrs Weltner of Waverly representing the Iowa District of the WMFP and Rev H Dirks sharing impressions from the Hannover assembly. Mrs Herbert Larson of Le Mars is noted as St John’s Preston president.

Funeral for Pauline Jauer in Le Mars

Pauline Jauer dies at 83 after long illness. Funeral services set for 3 30 p m Saturday April 25 at Grace Lutheran Le Mars with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Lincoln township. Survived by son Albert of Hinton seven grandchildren four step grandchildren ten great grandchildren. She and husband Joseph Jauer married 1884 in Sioux City. Mrs Jauer was a member of Trinity Lutheran church.

Mrs Ambon Peters Remsen death noted in April 1953 obituary

Anniena Peters of 310 4th Ave Le Mars died at home in April 1953 after long illness. Born November 22 1869 in Newall Iowa she moved to Remsen in 1896 and married Frank Peters. They farmed near Remsen and near Chirk South Dakota later moving to Le Mars in 1945. She was 53 at death? The obituary lists survivors including husband Frank Peters of Le Mars sons Hal Peters Clark South Dakota and Orville Peters Le Mars. sisters and grandchildren. Funeral at Christ Lutheran Remsen conducted by Rev H H Meser with burial in Remsen cemetery. Also notes church affiliation and prior civic service.

25th Anniversary Surprise For Renken Couple

Fifty relatives and friends gathered Wednesday evening at Mr and Mrs Fred Renken to observe their 25th wedding anniversary. Their son Lt Randall Renken of Minneapolis called to congratulate them. The group played pinochle and enjoyed a late luncheon after the games.

Fire damages Dr Rozeboom office on First Street

Unestimated fire caused heavy smoke and water damage to Dr W E Rozeboom’s building at 24 First Street North West after noon. Fire units extinguished flames after sparks from a gasoline spill while he worked on an outboard motor. Basements and upstairs rented space sustained smoke and water damage.

Pushed Auto Fire Damages 1941 Ford Near Remsen

Rural fire chief Bud Phillips reports Remsen fire department responded to a fire on the Joe Altman farm west of Remsen. A 1941 Ford car pushed through a field near farm buildings caught fire. it belonged to a son of John Theisen. Theisen and son acted to stop the blaze before the department arrived. Fire chief Pete Treinen was away when called.

The Union Township Consolidated school will hold its annual Kinder salten Round-Up on Friday May 1 1953 at 2 00 o'clock p m at the school. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kobbermann of Le Mars marked their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday April 19 with a family noon dinner at their home. Accident on Central Ave leads to minor car damage

An accident occurred on Central Avenue and First Street Northwest on Wednesday April 22. Anna Frerichs driving a 1947 Dodge traveled south when Martin Huckle backed from the curb and struck her car. No damage to the Ford occurred. Frerichs car sustained net side damage.

De Boer Couple Killed In Highway 78 Fire Accident

In Minnesota a blaze from stubble burning along Highway 75 near Euverne destroys a car and kills John G. De Boer, 62, and his wife. A passing driver, K Monsouth of Fredonia, Kansas, rear-ended their car in heavy smoke, igniting the vehicle. Grass Fire Traced To Pole Sparks Blaze Behind Bel or More

A grass fire broke out behind Bel or More on Highway 75 north around 1 pm today. Le Mars Fire Department arrived with two trucks, quickly controlling flames from raked brush after a telephone pole caught fire. The pole was saved amid involvement of thirty five firefighters. Friday evening guests at John Conover’s home were Mr and Mrs Bo J Roddy.

Mrs Lena Lax of Yakima Washington died April 18 at age ST. She was sister of the late Mike Heuertz who died January 20 1983 and Mass Pauline Heuertz who died December 11 1952.
