Woodrow Wormley Killed in Highway Collision

Woodrow Wormley 46 of Kingsley died Wednesday when his car collided with a creamery truck on Highway 140 about three miles north of Moville. He was believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel. the truck driver Doyle Cooper 19 of Mondamin escaped injury. Wormley was manager of Knowles Pan Manufacturing in Kingsley. Survivors include four daughters and two sons. he was a Mason and to be buried in Kingsley. The article also notes a University of South Dakota baseball doubleheader at home against Westmar College on Saturday.

Sioux Falls College Choir to Tour Four States

The 53 member Sioux Falls College Choir under Dr. W. Lee Bright will perform at First Baptist Church Le Mars on Sunday April 19 at 8:00 p.m. The program blends negro spirituals and Bach with a brass ensemble and two part choral works by Dr. Charles Wood. The four state tour includes South Dakota Nebraska Wyoming and Colorado with additional Iowa appearances planned.

Two Car Crash on Central Ave Causes $700 Damages

A Wednesday two car collision at Central Ave and 4th St SW caused $700 in damage. John Hanstra of Sioux Center saw his 1953 Ford sustain $400 right side damage while Lillian Gabel of Le Mars suffered $300 front end damage to her 1953 Ford. Both vehicles were towed to Stoos brothers Garage. Hanstra was eastbound and Gabel northbound. a failure to yield charge was filed against Hanstra. Also noted, Buena Vista track team visited Le Mars for a 12 event triangular meet with Westmar.

Mr and Mrs John W Johnson of Le Mars mark their fifty years of marriage on Sunday April 19 1959 with an open house 2 to 5 pm at Christ Lutheran church Grant township. M V I Trial Ends With Bail Paid After Tuesday Charge

Amon Martin Anderson, 35, had a $300 bond set and paid, then released after pleading guilty to a charge. Police arrested him Monday evening and he appeared before Judge TE Klay on Tuesday. Tragic Tractor Accident Takes Hawarden Resident

E Larson, 68, lifelong Hawarden farmer, died after a tractor tipped on a slope at his son Loyal’s farm west of Hawarden. Richard Newman of Alcester aided the lift. Larson died soon after being removed. Funeral held at Big Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Rendahl officiating. Survivors include widow, two sons Loyal and Elsie Jr, two daughters June Newman and Phyllis Grotewald, a brother Harold, a sister Mrs William Winterlin, and 11 grandchildren.

Lawyer Named Soil Conservationist for Plymouth County

Merle Lawyer was appointed April 6 as Soil Conservationist to the Soil Conservation Service serving the Plymouth County district. He hails from Manly and is a 1956 agronomy graduate of Iowa State College. After two years in the U S Army, he worked for Puster Associated Growers of Aurora Hingis before joining Lie Mars Soil Conservation Service.

Grass Fires Keep Firemen Busy In Le Mars Area

A series of grass and brush fires kept Le Mars firemen busy Tuesday night and Wednesday. Calls near the county home on highway 75 and along road 33 north of town involved burning cornstalks and underbrush. Firemen reported fires started by a cigarette and from trash incineration, with winds driving spread. crews contained the blazes near Bolser and Berkenpas properties and prevented damage to nearby buildings.

Steffe Receives Summer Science Institute Grant

Merrill High School teacher Steffe is among 50 selected to attend the eight week Summer Science Institute at South Dakota State University.
