Pilcher Dies After Accident In Sioux City

Thomas J. Pilcher 54 of Sioux City died from abdominal hemorrhage after being struck by a car while crossing an intersection on Saturday night. Driver John A. Ray 33 is under investigation. Pilcher had an eight year suspended sentence for manslaughter in a 1958 collision. He lived in Sioux City, worked for Swift & Co, and is survived by a widow, son, three daughters, parents, seven grandchildren, siblings, and other relatives. Funeral services set for Tuesday at Morningside funeral home.

Teacher Contract Deadline at Le Mars Schools

Superintendent E. D. Archambault announced a Wednesday April 15 deadline for teacher contracts. He believes the Le Mars faculty will be filled within the week.

Westmar stadium construction and New improvements underway

Milwau kee based Hufschmidt Engineers and Wiligen Ready-Mix of Le Mats began cement pours today for the Westmar Athletic Field stadium. Cinders deliveries stored in the field parking area will be used on the track. Additional work includes new entrance steps in front of Thoren hall and lights on brick gates. Wiltgen Construction awarded brick veneering for the home economics building.

Gehlen High selects two for Hawkeye Girls State

Miss Ray Hames a Gehlen junior will attend the Hawkeye girls state session at Cedar Falls June 14 to 20. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Tony Hames. An alternate is Miss Diane Flynn, another Gehlen junior and daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Flynn.

Kingsley Barn Fire Ends With Heavy Loss Suspected Cause

Firefighters from Kingsley fought a large blaze Friday at the Ben Franzen farm two miles west of Kingsley on James road. The barn burned to its shell before crews arrived and a nearby haystack also burned. Fire Chief Fred Reinholt said a wind-driven spark from morning leaf burning may have started the fire. Insufficient details on insurance coverage. Saturday morning a grass fire at the Don Conry farm southwest of Kingsley was brought under control with no serious damage.

Plymouth County Farm Bureau Women, 70 counties represented, traveled from Le Mars to Des Moines by bus on April 7.
