LeMars Seeks Municipal Airport With Aid Talks

City officials plan a meeting at Thoten Hall on April 8 at 8 p m with the chamber of commerce and Westmar advisory council airport committees to discuss conditions for Le Mars to qualify for federal and state assistance toward an approved municipal airport. Committee members include Vern Lovely Gail Gilmore Mike Wells Burton Dull Robert Roseberry and M Forsburg. Robert W Nemmers assistant director of the Iowa Aeronautics Commission will outline eligibility requirements.

Poetry Winner Clemmens Langner Receives 3rd Place

Clemmens Langner son of Mrs Margaret Langner of Le Mars has been named 3rd place winner in the DYO poetry contest. He will receive the award from Bishop Mueller at St Edmond High School Fort Dodge on April 26 during the 9th annual award day. Clemens, 14, attends Trinity Preparatory Seminary in Sioux City and has lived in the United States since childhood after Germany schooling. his father Ferdinand was listed as missing in World War I.

IPS Pole Damaged By Fire Near Seney on Highway 33

Le Mars fire department responded at 5:15 PM to a grass fire that spread to an IPS pole one mile south of Seney on Highway 33. The pole was burning and the cause was listed as unknown.

Crash Victim Douglas McDonnell In Satisfactory Condition

Douglas McDonnell 18 of Sioux City is in satisfactory condition at St. Joseph's hospital after a car crash east of Le Mars on highway 5 Monday night. He fractured a leg, sustained facial cuts, will have leg surgery Thursday. Sheriff Frank Scholer and deputy Jim Mertes reported he was driving a Triumph eastward toward Remsen when he lost control at Branch corner, veered into the ditch, struck a tree, and the car twisted around it. An ambulance was summoned from the Glenn Georke farm. Ness wrecker hauled the vehicle to town.

Holzapfel Award To Don McDougall

Don McDougall son of Judson and Mrs McDougall of Le Mars received Westmar College Holzapfel award for athletic participation and scholarship. A 1958 graduate he now teaches and coaches at Union Consolidated high school. The award honors personality and attitude at Westmar and McDougall starred in football basketball and track while an honor student. He has coached Union Consolidated basketball to one of its better seasons.

Treton Depot Suit Basis Filed By Farmers Co op

The Farmers Co op Association of Treton sues Chiago Northwestern Railroad Co and Dick Klalis for dismantling a depot leased for floor space. The petition says the lease runs to August at 72 dollars yearly and notes about 3600 dollars in corn stored in the depot. The coop seeks an injunction to stop further demolition. Le Mars Home Show Draws Crowd and Demos

The Le Mars Home Show opened with steady afternoon visitors and a large evening crowd from 7 to 9. Demonstrations ran across 25 booths, with Harriet Kovaleske playing the Lowry organ for Parkinson Music Store as shows continued through yesterday afternoon and evening.
