County Attorney Appeals Mayor Court Action in Liquor Case

County Attorney William S. Sturges filed an oral appeal to the district court from Mayor E. R. Scholer's judgment in the case of State of Iowa v Larry Dean Coons. Coons, 16, of Storm Lake, was fined 50 dollars with 40 dollars suspended for consuming liquor on a public highway. The appeal cites lack of jurisdiction to suspend sentences for a minor and criticizes the leniency as inadequate given a 1963 accident and the defendant’s juvenile record.
