Iowa lawmakers face a possible deadlock over levies for property tax relief. The house senate and governor clash on funding sources and distribution. If they quit, local property tax payers would bear the cost for schools and related services through higher levies.
Sisters of St. Francis at Sacred Heart hospital announce plans to add a 30 by 50 foot wing on the north side to house a new laundry. Existing crowded conditions and little equipment prompted the expansion. Bids will be sought and construction may start soon. ambulance entrance will be widened.
Jola Blum presided at the 38th annual 4-H rally day for Plymouth County girls held May 11 in the Girls H building. Attendance reached 425 as campaigning and officer elections occurred for 1963 64. New officers named include Cherron Jauer Hinton Janet Gerrietts Ak ron Lana Peterson Le Mars Pat Hurd Merrill.
Dr. Robert C. Jacobs a Merrill veterinarian was released from a Sioux City Methodist hospital where he had been a patient since a heart attack two months ago. He will be available at his Merrill office for consultations until he can resume practice.
Steven Dale Rogers 17 of Richfield Minnesota was arrested after a stolen 1960 Oldsmobile crashed into McComb’s Texaco at Le Mars. The chain began when a stalled car on Highway 73 prompted police to assist and Rogers, reportedly mentally retarded, fled from a probation office wait room prior to the theft.
Mrs Betty Karl of Le Mars was fined 29 dollars for speeding in a restricted zone and 9 dollars for a stop sign violation. Charges filed May 7 by Patrolman Kelly. Five highway patrol cases in justice court include Julia Anna Calkins 10 dollars for night speed filed May 7 Richard Ahrendt 24 dollars for night speed filed May 4 James N Smith 14 dollars for night speed filed May 4 Ardis Johnson 12 dollars for failure to stop at a stop sign and 10 dollars for expired operator's license filed May 8.
