Le Mars drivers praised after safety check by local students

A Le Mars resident thanked volunteers after a routine traffic safety check by two area high schools and the Le Mars Rotary Club revealed worn tie rods in her car. Radar checks by the highway patrol yielded several speeding fines in mayor's court. An upcoming spring choral concert at Gehlen High School is planned for Sunday night at 8.

Special annual nuns party sponsored by Catholic Daughters of America held Tuesday evening at the KC hall for the Fran ciscan Sisters of Ovens Sacred Heart hospital and Gehlen. Hats judged for originality and humor with a 5:30 pm potluck dinner. program featured singing and gifts. E. D. Athens Real Estate Moves to Temporary Hog House

Athens Real Estate and Chamber of Commerce relocate to a hog house west of Athens Standard Service during construction of a $25,000 single story office building to replace the demolished Ply mouth Street structure. The new 40 by 50 foot block and brick veneer design includes a glassed lobby and will house three tenants with space for rent. Completion is slated for July 1.

Rotary Club Car Safety Check Sets Record 737 Vehicles

Le Mars Rotary club conducted a two day car safety check tallying 737 vehicles, a record for the event. About 475 vehicles, or 64 percent, received safety stickers. 402 passed on first check, 292 were rejected, and 73 returned after repairs and passed. Rate was roughly 74 cars per hour with students aiding at each checkpoint.

Westmar announces $1,000,000 housing project and June bids

Joe Farley, brother of Ben Farley founder of the Boys Ranch near Amarillo, spoke at Le Mars Rotary. He described the 10,000 acre facility housing about 300 youths started in 1939 for delinquent youths. He noted about 60 percent are neglected or dependent, with 40 percent arising due to delinquency.

Le Mars Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual dinner Tuesday May 21 at 6 30 p m in St James Catholic church hall. Women of the church promise a beef roast dinner served family style.
