Gary Brown Hurt on Construction Job

Gary Brown an 18 year old from Le Mars suffered a punctured lung ruptures and fractured ribs in a construction accident near Iowa City. He worked two weeks for Hobey Construction Co. A heavy object reportedly fell in a pit as he was fitting. Surgery may be performed at an Iowa City hospital.

Penthouse Serenade Junior Senior Banquet at Westmar

Westmar college hosts the annual junior and senior banquet in Weidler hall Saturday at 6 30 pm. About 200 guests are expected as the Top Hat themed dinner club ambience is created with a jazz pianist Berse and song performances by Rona Cohart and Bob Brown. Menu features shrimp cocktail steak mushrooms baked potato and strawberry tart. Tony Allen of Coffeyville Kansas is general chairman.

Man suffers minor injuries after sidewalk fall near bank

At the hospital in Le Mars Jack Doering suffered cuts and abrasions in a fall on Thursday afternoon on the sidewalk north of the First National Bank. Luken's ambulance took him to Sacred Heart hospital where a spokesman said his injuries were not serious and he was released this morning.

Births and Girl Scout Canoe Trip Plans Highlight Local News

Born to Mr and Mrs Law Renee Kennedy Oyens a son May 9 at Sacred Heart hospital. Ann Vander Meer Le Mars daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Vander Meer Le Mars named to nine member Senior Girl Scout patrol for a canoe trip through the Quetico wilderness into Canada in August. Ann belongs to Le Mars Senior Girl Scout troop No 460 and will train with Red Cross and Sioux Trails instructors before the trip.

Tractors Plow 250 Acres At Norman Heeren Farm

Forty one tractors plowed 250 acres in four hours at the Norman Heeren farm six miles northwest of Le Mars. About 49 men participated May 1 with noon dinner provided by 19 women. Farmer Norman Heeren had recently been released from a Sioux City hospital after surgery.

Hoffman tops aerospace scholarship seniors at Iowa State

Jack A. Hoffman of Le Mars was named high scholarship senior in aerospace engineering at Iowa State University Ames. He ranked among 20 top GPAs in the field, as 184 students were honored at the annual scholarship recognition dinner. Other regional honorees include Roger C. Knapp Westfield Alvin D. Netten Orange City and Gary E. Samuelson Marcus.

Seven Westmar faculty vacancies announced for next year

Westmar College dean G C Thompson disclosed seven open faculty positions for the upcoming school year. County board allocates funds for retarded children

Plymouth county Association for Retarded Children met in Le Mars with Gordon Mennen presiding. The county board agreed to cover up to 10,000 for five special classes starting in 1964. Officers elected included Preston McCracken president and Sylvester Pick vice president. Next meeting set for June 12.

Negro singers discuss rights at Westmar forum

A Freedom Singers member, active in Southern integration, spoke to over 100 Westmar students about basic rights. The group, touring to perform protest songs, commented on Birmingham demonstrations and Dr. Martin Luther King’s efforts for settlement.
