Town and Country Drive Inn Sold to Brauchalski Pair

Mrs. Clara Brauchalski and her son Jack announce the purchase of the Town and Country Drive Inn from Ron Kelly and will take over operations on Wednesday May 15. Jack has been involved in another highway restaurant, while Clara has worked there. Kelly has run the Town and Country for five years and has ties to Farm Bureau Insurance.

Weber in limbo awaiting psychiatric eval and trial

Officials face a quandary over Gerhard Albert Weber 16 Sioux City charged with stabbing a Morningside housewife. He remains jailed as arraignment ordered psychiatric evaluation under maximum security conditions. Options include transport to Cherokee hospital or secure treatment at Anamosa. Trial halted until he is fit to stand trial.

James Kelley Attends Air Force Assembly

James Kelley son of Judge and Mrs James P Kelley was one of two State University of Iowa students chosen to represent the university at the fifth annual air force assembly in Colorado Springs from April 3 to 6. He is a SUI senior and 1959 Gehlen graduate with seminars led by Dean Rusk as principal speaker.

Held watershed project approved by House committee

Congressman Charles B. Hoeven said the House Committee on Agriculture approved the Held watershed project, with 7 420 acres in Plymouth County sponsored by the Soil Conservation District and Board of Supervisors. The plan will aid Hinton and 28 farms by reducing flood and erosion damage, federal funding totaling 441 068, start this summer.

Eason family hosts Japanese student visitors on farm weekend

Mrs. Joe Easton recalls a Briar Cliff College exchange weekend with two Japanese students from Kyoto, Mariko Tokuda and Mamiko Taoki. They toured the farm, discussed language lessons, kitchen customs, and cultural differences. The pair plan a Channel 4 program on Japan May 14 at 7:30 pm.

Joint Westmar recital slated Wednesday evening

Two Westmar music faculty members present a joint recital in Thoren Auditorium as part of the Fine Arts festival. Free and open to the public Betty Lou Ratliff performs Debussy piano pieces and Mozart Sonata in D Major while Larry Day baritone sings Schumann Dichterliebe.

Negro freedom singers to perform on Westmar campus

Nationally known Freedom Singers, five college students active in the Civil Rights movement, will give a free concert Thursday at 8 pm in Thoren auditorium on the Westmar campus. Proceeds support SNCC work. Members include Rutha Harris and Bernice Johnson of Albany Georgia Cordell Reagan of Nashville Tennessee Charles Neblett of Carbondale Illinois and his brother Carver Neblett of 19.
