About 1725 poppies sold before Memorial Day. Mrs. Wynda Kroepel thanked volunteers and buyers. Dr. Ramona Meyler, Miss Iowa 1964, to speak at Le Mars Lions noon luncheon. Numerous local ladies attended.

Fines paid by Fines Roman Fielder and Steven Jans in Le Mars. Fielder paid 29 dollars for intoxication with charges from June 20 by the highway patrol. Jans paid 39 dollars for speeding in a restricted zone with charges from Monday by Patrolman Kelly.
A wedding license was issued Tuesday to Robert Allen, 17, and Linda Johnson, 18, both of Sioux City. Free ice cream cones will be served Friday and Saturday at Randall's in Le Mars, manager Vern Miller said today. Check Randall's weekend grocery ad on the back page.
A late Tuesday storm brought heavy rain to Le Mars with hail briefly peppering the area and thunder nearby. Rain totals reached .32 inches in a half hour with gutters overflowing and temperatures dropping from 90 to 75 before lingering cool dampness and a return to the 90s later.
Darold Anthony Pick 27 escaped injury when his 1958 Chevrolet struck a semi truck driven by Theodore Niles 51 near Ovens Corner on Highway 3 Tuesday night around 9 25. The truck jackknifed off the south side after the left front bumper contacted the car. Traffic investigator Patrolman Larry Colglazier noted the north to east turning move.
The Assistant economics professor from Korea Cheul Kang was appointed at Westmar College by President H. H. Kalas. Kang, a Seoul native, studied at Reinhardt Junior College and King College, earning an MS from the University of Wisconsin in 1960 and awaiting a PhD there in August. His work focuses on international economics and economic history. He is married with one child, replacing Clayton Feis who resigned for a staff post at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
At Sacred Heart hospital on Tuesday Sharon Kay Schiltz of Le Mars joins admitted patients. Dismissals include Mrs. Alvina Rosch Marcus and son from Alton Mrs. James Folkenbrock and daughter from Alton Mrs. Eugene Ruisch and daughter from Le Mars Mrs. Alvin Scheitler and daughter from Le Mars. Also listed is the expired Mrs. Rose Langhorst of Granville.
Mrs Rose Langenhorst 69 of Granville died Tuesday after a long illness. Born July 24 1893 at Sutherland she later lived in Hospers and Granville. She married Felix Langenhorst January 12 1915. he died November 1934. Survived by son Anthony three daughters Marie Schnepf Marion Wermke Irene Hauser a brother William Hodapp three sisters and 12 grandchildren. Funeral 10 am Friday at St Joseph Catholic Church Granville. Burial in church cemetery Fisch Funeral Home Remsen. Rosary 8 pm Thursday Spalding Hall.
Plymouth county farmers will see a one operation corn planting method at the Northwest Iowa Field Day near Sutherland. ISU agronomist Frank Shaller will explain minimum tillage studies and plant population rates. A hay watering demo will show mowing with a flail forage harvester and cube storage. Swanson's ad notes five day sale through Wednesday.
Plymouth county Municipal Civil Defense board outlined a $10,498 budget with federal aid equal to half the sum. If approved, local cost would be $5,249, split among enrolled towns Merrill Akron Hinton Le Mars. Per capita rate 30 cents for four towns, Le Mars could owe about $2,000. Program covers personnel training and equipment. Elmer Lund named part time director.
Miss Iowa's schedule tightens before leaving July 10 for the Miss Universe pageant in Miami Beach. Dr. Ramona Meyler visited Sioux Falls for a KELO interview while a Des Moines TV rep accompanied the trip. A Thursday Des Moines Sunday Register interview is planned, with a Le Mars Lions lunch, Wells Blue Bunny sponsor dinner, and a tour of a highway 75 milk plant. Ramona, a January Palmer College graduate, will be feted by chiropractors at the Flamingo in South Sioux City.
June 26 at 8 p.m. Foster Park hosts a band concert. Also on June 26 Le Mars hosts a Dollar Day event followed by Royal United performances June 28 and 29 sponsored by Wasmer post drum and bugle corps. A country club tea is listed for June 27 and a country club dinner dance for June 3.
