Temperature Spike Ends Cool Spell in Local Reach

Temperatures rose past the W-degree mark by late Thursday morning while residents sought relief in air conditioning after several days of cool weather. A quick uplift followed a low of 64 degrees with a thundershower at about 2 am barely dampening sidewalks. Over a half inch of rain was reported near Merrill and areas south, with moisture at 0.6 of an inch. The warm-up started Wednesday reaching 81 degrees, and the outlook calls for higher temperatures and clear skies.

Iowa high school journalists attend record workshop at Iowa State

More than 240 students enroll in the seventh annual Iowa High School Publications workshop at the State University of Iowa. Four Le Mars students receive scholarships from the Le Mars Daily Sentinel. Student Sues Westmar College Over Slippery Gym Floor

Marie Johnson of Paullina sues Westmar College for 20000 damages in district court claiming a June 22 1851 gym class injury from a defective oily floor. She alleges college knew of the condition and negligently allowed use. A separate item notes a hatchery fire northwest of Tames causing about 30000 in losses, with insurance coverage and restocking steps.

Westmar housing bids open for three projects on campus

Nearly 60 people attended the bid opening in Wendler hall for construction of three Westmar housing projects on campus including a women's residence hall, an addition between two men's dormitories, and married students' apartments. Bids opened at 2 p.m. with an executive session to follow. contracts expected to be awarded totaling about 1.1 million dollars. Car crash leaves driver with minor injuries near Glidden

William Peter Kurth, 20, of route 1 Glidden, walked from a wrecked eastbound 1957 Mercury after it sideswiped a pole and rolled into a ditch near a Bob Ross service station at 11 30 pm Wednesday. He was treated at Sacred Heart hospital and released, fined $14 in mayor's court for expired license.

Robert D Nielsen 36 Dies in Cherokee Hospital

Robert D Nielsen 36 of Marcus died Wednesday after a long illness in a Cherokee hospital. He was born April 1 1927 in Plymouth County and spent most of his life in the Cleghorn and Marcus area. Survivors include his mother Marie Nielsen of Marcus. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church Marcus with burial at Amherst Cemetery.

Le Mars Doctor Receives Medicine Degree at Nebraska

Gilbert Kloster of Le Mars earned the doctor of medicine degree at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine commencement held Sunday afternoon at the Omaha Civic Auditorium Music Hall. He received the Mosby Book Award and was cited as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.

Four Hurt in Two Car Intersection Crash

Four persons escaped unharmed after a two car collision at 7 45 p m Wednesday at the intersection of 7th Ave and 3rd St SW. Frank Orban of Le Mars was eastbound and struck a southbound car driven by Chester Mesner with passenger Floyd Hull and Kimberly Ann Mesner aboard. Damage to Mesner s 1961 Ford was listed at 100 dollars for the left front fender door and wheel, while Orban s 1956 Chevrolet had no estimate yet for damage to the left front bumper. Capt. The U S Soil Conservation Service authorized planning aid for South Hungerford No 2 and West Sunnyside watersheds in Plymouth county to curb gullying erosion and flood damage.
