Cable crew report sparks a shock at old maid’s home

A repair crew near an elderly resident’s home overheard coarse language. The foreman’s report claims he accidentally dropped hot lead on a coworker. The coworker replied with a quip, “Really, Harry, you must be more careful.”

Corpus Christi outdoor procession planned at St Catherine Church

Temperatures warm under bright sun after a cool Tuesday night. Morning low 51 with a high 70 yesterday. Partly cloudy with warmer readings and possible thunder showers tonight and Thursday. Feast of Corpus Christi observed with an outdoor procession at St Catherine Catholic Church Ovens on Sunday June 16 after 9am high mass sung by Rev L Schoeppner. Hospital Treatment for Mrs Jahn in California Visit

Mrs Marie Jahn a county recorder who recently left for California to visit relatives underwent surgery Tuesday in a San Jose hospital. She will remain hospitalized for over a week and then recover at the home of her daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Fritz Reuter at 1517 San Joaquin San Jose.

Born to Earl and Mrs Nacke a daughter at Sacred Heart

A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Earl Nacke of Remsen on June 11 at Sacred Heart hospital. Randall's in Le Mars will serve free hot dogs and coffee Friday and Saturday, manager Vern Miller said. See Randall's weekend ad on page three with prices for Thursday through Saturday.

Le Mars youth injured in school site fall

Jerry Gatzke 18 of Le Mars was hurt at the new Le Mars Community high school site around 2 pm Tuesday. He fell from a 3 foot scaffold while lifting a concrete block and was taken by Luken's ambulance to Sacred Heart hospital. Initial report said his condition was listed as good with bruises and possible injuries pending X rays.

Two Car Crash Near Wells Plant In Remsen Area

Two cars collided at 12th Street SW east of Wells' milk plant. Jay Allen Ward of Breda, eastbound, and John Schroeder of Remsen driving from the plant driveway, were involved. Chief Fay Terpenning investigated. No front end damage estimates filed for Ward's 1956 Chevrolet and Elaine Schroeder's 1963 Chevrolet. Three highway patrol cases closed with fines in Mayors Court: Robert Wiese Jr., Donald Cornish, and Walter Schemmel. Le Mars Class of 1943 Holds 20th Reunion at Country Club

Fifty four members of Le Mars high school class of 1943 gathered at Le Mars Country Club for an informal afternoon visit and evening dinner with a steak feast. Attendance reached 112, with guests from multiple states. Highlights included remarks by retired coach Eugene Carey and teacher Arnold Steinjes, and awards for farthest travel, most children, longest marriage, and youngest child.

Behrens leads youth tour departs Le Mars depot for Europe

Msgr A W Behrens and a group of 40 young travelers left Le Mars on the first leg of a 60 day Europe tour aboard the RMS Franconia. Mary Alesch, the sole Le Mars member, a Iowa City teacher, travels with Onawa and Salix companions. The group gathers in Chicago with more joining from Town Minnesota Denver and Flagstaff. Departure June 14 opens the voyage toward Kobe Ireland and Glasgow before returning to New York.

Voters reject Alton Orange City school merger plan

In southeastern Sioux County, residents rejected the Maurice Orange City and Floyd Valley district consolidation. The total vote was 1377 against and 475 in favor. Precincts across Alton Hospers and Newkirk also voted down the measure, with results shown by town.

Conway Named Ford Analysis Supervisor in Dearborn

James W. Conway a Le Mars High School graduate has been named supervisor of product quality analysis for Ford Motor Company central staff in Dearborn Michigan. He joined Ford in 1957 and was a finance staff analyst at the time of his appointment. He and his wife and three children live at 136 South Highland Dearborn. His parents Mr and Mrs J W Conway of Le Mars have recently visited.

Fire destroys 22000 chickens at Kallsen Hatchery near Hinton

Early morning blaze at Kallsen Hatchery two miles south and three quarters of a mile west of Hinton destroyed 20 000 baby chicks and another two buildings, with 22 000 birds killed overall and damage totaling about 950 dollars. Perry and Hinton firefighters battled the fire for over an hour and a half, saving one building while two others burned. No injuries reported.

Area Deaths John Henry Baldes Interred at Neptune Cemetery

John Henry Baldes, 77, of Sioux City died of a heart attack Monday afternoon. Born December 30, 1885 in Roxbury Wisconsin, he lived in Le Mars and Kingsley before moving to Sioux City in 1933. Survived by three sisters Pauline Rathbun and Lena Henderson plus Alma Lahtinen, and two brothers Henry C. and Oscar J. Funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery at Neptune.
