Royal Theatre manager Jim Lewis reports two to three tons of coal in the basement from years past when heating shifted to gas. He invites coal users to collect the fuel free of charge as part of theater remodeling and cleanup efforts.
Friday licenses granted to John Martin age 2 of Fargo North Dakota and Marilyn Yackel 21 of Le Mars as well as Judith Ann Hartmann 21 of Akron and Anne Alan Hunstad 24 of Aberdeen South Dakota and Ronald Thilges 3 of Somers Iowa and Ruth Ruden 18 of Fort Dodge. A license was issued Wednesday to James Francis Fisch 23 of Le Mars and Lois Fay Nuebel 21 of Remsen.
Ramona Kathleen Meyler a practicing chiropractor and X ray technician was named Miss Le Mars on Thursday night She is part of Meyler Meyler and Meyler a Le Mars firm and the sister of chiropractors Don and Robert Meyler Ramona daughter of Mrs Ray J Meyler of Cherokee and the late Mr Meyler She has other relatives in Cherokee and Le Mars including nurses and a farming brother She studied at Washington high in Cherokee Palmer College Davenport and returned to Le Mars in 1962 to work with her brothers She is a member of Sigma Chi and secretary of the northwest district Chiropractic Society Her hobbies include horseback riding and dancing.
A son was born June 5 at Lutheran hospital in Sioux City to Mr and Mrs Robert Doering of Le Mars. The birth adds a new member to the family and local records note the day of arrival.
Weather brief notes no rain in 24 hours despite daily showers earlier in the week. Western Plymouth and Sioux counties plus parts of NE Nebraska, SE South Dakota and SW Minnesota faced a severe weather warning for 3 to 9 pm with possible heavy storms and tornadic conditions. Temperatures remained high, humidity heavy, and a warm forecast with thundershowers expected through Saturday. Ramona Meyler 23, a chiropractor, won Miss Le Mars as over 400 attendees watched at Royal Theatre. She will compete at Arnolds Park for Miss Iowa, then Miss Universe in Miami if she wins state. Sponsor Wells Blue Bunny called the event a success. Ramona's measurements and height noted amid descriptions of her appearance and stage debut.
Voters in Floyd Valley and Maurice-Orange City districts go to the polls Monday to decide on forming the East Sioux Community School District. Polls open noon to 7 pm with five precincts, reflecting past school election hours to avoid conflicts with primary or general elections. If majority approves, the new district will be created.
Le Mars downtown traffic returned to schedule by late Thursday after months of disruption from faulty lights. Three new controllers in large metal boxes at each intersection were installed with help from Bob Wright and Tony Hames, replacing worn out original controllers after years of use. The new system cost about 50 dollars.
